10 NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS FOR LIVING YOUR BEST LIFE IN 2020
2019 has been a great year and for 2020, it is going to be an even better year.
And now, we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been.
- Rainer Maria Rilke
So what new year resolutions should you be making to get yourself into living out the best possible life in 2020?
Get Yourself To A Healthier Place For The New Year
I love this call to action!
For 2020, you can definitely get better, get healthier. And it’s not just in your health and physical fitness, but also getting yourself to a healthier place in your relationships, in your work, in your passion and in everything in your life!
I found it really useful to ask the question “can I get to a healthier place?”. It is a great check-in question for me on the people and things that matter to me most. Not just on the areas that are not so good, but also on those that going well. It makes me think about how I can make them even better.
Throw Away Useless Things
I just spent 2 days clearing my office of old stuff that has been junking up space for years. It took some work and effort to clear and throw away things. They are no longer useful to me but for some reason, I have been holding on to them.
And it was incredibly liberating to be freed of stuff that stuffed up my office life for years! It feels a whole lot lighter going into 2020!
Focus On What’s Now and Not Just What’s Next
Sometimes the uncertainty of the future can be rather unnerving and paralyzing. We get side tracked by things we do not know in “what’s next” and missed the things we do know in “what’s now”.
Pause and see.
For the good relationships and things we have, be grateful for them, taste them and develop them further. For those that are not so good, learn from them, be grateful that you are alive and that tomorrow will be a better day.
Success Is Action
You have heard me say this all the time. Success is not perfection.
You don’t have to be perfect in thinking what you want to do before you start anything. The perfect thing to do is just to think some and get started. Then learn, calibrate and try again.
I assure you. Life is more fun and satisfactory this way. Because you would have tried something you thought about and not be like millions of people in the world who would have died and regret not trying at all.
Make Time To Do The Things That Are Important To You
Don’t let the busyness of 2020 stop you from doing important things.
You know the year will be busy. So make sure you create margins in your life for those things. No margins, no action, no success. So if they are that important to you, create the margins of time and resource. Impose on your calendar for these things that will make your life better.
Make time!
Start With What You Have And Not What You Don’t Have
One of the stoppers in having a great best life is the limiting thought that you don’t have what you need to make things happen.
While that might be true, how about what DO YOU HAVE now that can start making things happen in your life?
Everyone you know today and everything you have now is a link to the people and things that you eventually need to realize your best life!
Do The Things You Love
Many of you make many sacrifices for your family, work and career. It is a good thing.
But hold on a minute! Are you also doing what you love?
While you still have life, breath and energy, find the work and things you love to do, and go make time and create opportunities to do those them! Don’t let 2020 be boring and sad.
Protect Your Priceless Circle
Your priceless circle is the circle of intimate relationships – spouse, partner, children and friends. These people love you for who you are. They will be there even at your deathbed. Your clients won’t.
So protect this circle! For 2020, invest a little more time and energy into these relationships and they will return to you a hundred folds!
Achieve Something New
For 2020, go achieve something new that you have never done before.
It does not matter what it is. Go bake a cake, develop your 6 pecs, go fishing, attend a class … because achieving something new is energizing and it motivates and stimulates us to staying creative, living well and being hopeful.
Not Just Resolution But Evolution
Finally, a new year is not only to resolve doing or not doing things but also to evolve from where we have been.
Every good and bad thing that has happened to you in 2019 is empirical data that showed you what you love, hate, good at or suck at. Don’t repeat the mistakes. Learn from them. And for the things that you have been good at and love, do more of them!
Don’t just resolve. Evolve!
Thank You and Happy New Year!
And with that, I wish everyone a Happy New Year for 2020!
Be happy. And be great!
