10 questions for Nina Habegger

10 questions for Nina Habegger

At Storopack work 2,310 employees at 72 locations in 18 countries.  In our "10 questions ..." series, employees from different areas of the company share insights into their everyday work. Today, Nina Habegger tells us what drives her as a HR Specialist & Junior Accountant and what makes work at Storopack special for her.

1.  Tell us about your job at Storopack.

My tasks are very diverse - from creating accounts receivable invoices to monthly financial statements to accounts payable invoices and cash management, everything is represented in accounting. In HR, of course, it's even more diverse because I cover the entire HR life cycle. These are processes such as joining / leaving / transfers / recruitment interviews / conflict talks / all administration.

I have been working for Storopack Schweiz AG in Birr since June 2019, with a short interruption of three months. Starting in internal sales, I moved to HR and marketing and later to HR and accounting.

2.   What does a typical working day look like?

In the morning I come to the office around 08:00 am and start my computer. Then I open the windows for some fresh air and grab the first coffee or tea. The first thing I do is checking my emails. After that, I usually work on accounting topics and do the most important tasks before I switch to HR topics. In between, I'm sure there's a chat with my colleagues and lunch is also part of the day. The afternoon looks similar. Since it's important to always have a sympathetic ear in HR, it also happens from time to time that I'm called in for a meeting with an employee on short notice. Usually the time passes faster than I think and it's already closing time.

3.   What do you particularly like about your role?

The responsibility and independence in the HR and accounting departments. The accounting tasks tend to be predetermined and I can't embellish them myself, but in HR I can contribute my own thoughts a lot more. I like that very much.

4.   What drives you to work in your area of responsibility?

Especially in HR, I see how I can help people. This motivates me a lot. I can help and support employees with my knowledge.

5.   What qualities do you most often need at work and why?

Initiative (doer mindset) and organizational skills. Due to the two areas of responsibility and the various deadlines, good organization is key. But that's exactly what makes the day-to-day work so interesting.

6.   What excites you most about Storopack as an employer?

The great trust that is given to me at work and the collegial working atmosphere.

7.   If you had to describe Storopack in three words, which would it be?

Innovative, Helpful, Familiar.

8.   What advice would you give young professionals in your job?

Having drive is necessary to get into HR. Stick with it, learn, don't let it get you down, and show interest. A lot of initiative and responsibility is required. In accounting, a clean work ethic is important. You can also get into this job as an apprenticeship graduate if you are interested.

9.   What can you definitely not go without in your work day?

To many things ;-) Without a laptop it will be difficult, with a laptop without Outlook, SAP and drive it will be difficult, too. And of course I can't do without my colleagues, who are also there to help and advise me. :-)

10. What hobbies / things do you like to do that make you YOU?

In my free time, that is after work, I am almost every day with my horse in the stable. There I can really unwind from the working day and enjoy the time and peace with my horse. Afterwards I go home tired but happy and enjoy the last hours before going to bed with my partner or a good book. Sometimes also with Netflix ;-)
