10 Steps to Having a More Positive Influence on Others

The basic idea: For over nine years, I've been doing my best to use LinkedIn to have a positive and uplifting influence on others. To put this in a single sentence, while some initially saw LinkedIn as a place to sell, it always has seemed to me like a wonderful place to serve.

Along the way, I have encountered dozens of amazing entrepreneurs who became my clients and friends. Each has taught me at least as much as I have taught them.

No matter whether on my own or on behalf of a client, certain principles have guided me. At this point, they are proven rules for having a positive influence on others. Here they are:

Increase Your Influence system by Bruce Kasanoff

A bit more background: My website now includes a comprehensive section that explains my Increase Your Influence system. It's completely free; you don't even have to register to access it. There's a page for each principle, along with a few extra resources.

These principles answer pretty much every question anyone has ever asked me professionally, including:

  • How do I have a greater impact?
  • What can I say to be more persuasive?
  • How can I grow my business?
  • What can I do to expand my professional network?

Astute observers will note that today I am following my own give away good ideas principle. It says:

The secret to success in social media is to give valuable ideas away for free. Help without getting paid, and in the long run you will make more, not less.

I want to work with kind souls, professionals who do well by doing good. Nearly every time I give away content for free, people like this find me. To put this another way, I have always found it more profitable to give away great content than to sell it.

For far more detail on this and my other principles, please visit my Increase Your Influence site.
