Is Stress a Pain Killer for Reproductive Age Women?

In today’s world of chaos, stress continues to assimilate into our beliefs, day-to-day activities, thinking patterns, and everyday interactions. Stress charges our emotions so passively that we tend to lose our critical thinking, rationality, and ability to use the best of our potential to make this world a better place to live. It also impacts our workplace productivity and quality in addition to weakening our interpersonal relationships.    

A recent study on females surviving the Russia–Ukraine conflict has revealed a surprising outcome indicating an inverse relationship between their high stress levels and pain perceptions. Interestingly, the magnitude of this relationship between pain and stress weakened in regions around Ukraine that are probably less affected by the ongoing war. This study also suggests the short-term relationship between stress and its pain-reducing effect in women. However, that does not rule out the possibility of using stress as a potential treatment measure to control the pain patterns in women affected by various acute or chronic disease conditions. Although, no such evidence is so far available to justify this perception.

The outcomes of this study cannot be generalized for a population of women struck in war zones like Palestine and Ukraine, since its findings were obtained by analyzing user inputs from a mobile health app.
