1,000 days... and go!

1,000 days... and go!

Kicking off a 1,000 day challenge today, inspired by a conversation between Rich Roll and Gordo Byrn . I’ve outlined 6 low-bar tasks for myself to do on a daily basis. Here they are:

  1. Write 250 words. It’s like writing 5 tweets. Not much on a daily basis - but it adds up quickly. If I stay on top of this, I’ll have written the equivalent of 2 books in 1,000 days. Maybe one good book outline will materialize from the sheer volume. Who knows? But I’m into the idea of turning writing into a personal habit. (Starting with this 481 word article feels pretty good.)
  2. Post to social media 5x. It’s become increasingly important in today’s culture to be visible online. Sure, there’s a lot of useless volume. But I’m hoping to both share a little more of myself and engage in meaningful discourse around topics I care about. (You can find me on Twitter and Instagram. Maybe TikTok, maybe.)
  3. Run 2 miles. I’m prone to chasing after - and sometimes stumbling over - big, audacious goals. I’m less skilled at playing the long, consistent game. So, I’m going to start a running streak of at least 2 miles per day. Likely it’ll be more some days of the week - but at least this every day. I usually hate that first mile of every run - so it had to be 2 miles daily. (Tracking on Strava .)
  4. Cook 1 meal. Cooking is both creative and therapeutic for me. I enjoy the process and thinking about nutrition, who I’m feeding, and what influences from my travels or world cuisines might work together. I want to do this daily to create a moment of pause, a way to express myself differently, and share something useful - like a recipe - with others.
  5. Get 1 person financially organized. I’ve been learning and developing *so* much around finance over the past 4 or so years now. Studying personal financial planning. Coaching in business structures and growth. Engaging in fintech solutions and communities. Building a neobanking platform. But I want to make this all more immediately tangible. This is aspirational for the moment - but if you want to have a conversation, comment below. I’ll be structuring something over the next 60 days.
  6. Read 10 pages. I read a tremendous amount of news and research on a daily basis. But this task is specific to reading books. I want this habit to bookend (pun intended) my days. I spend a lot of my time thinking fast right now, and I want to strengthen the slow thinking and processing muscles. And this hopefully will lead to better writing the next morning.

Have you ever started a 1,000 day challenge? Does any of what I’m doing resonate? What would you put on the list?

As an aside, started tracking all these tasks on the The Done App . We'll see how that goes.
