1000 Days of Posting on LinkedIn
What I’ve learned after 1000 days of posting & how content creation helped me build a community and become a LinkedIn Top Voice.
1000 Days of LinkedIn Posts: The data, impact & how you can get started
(if you came from the post, scroll down to START HERE to keep reading the how-to portion)
In October 2020, I decided to start taking LinkedIn seriously.
I already had a 5-figure following and posted randomly,
But viewed LinkedIn as a lead gen tool first and foremost.
I just didn’t *get* the value of posting daily or taking a serious, organized approach to LinkedIn.
✨ 1000 posts later, LinkedIn has changed my life ✨
Here’s the very real value of growing my professional network on LinkedIn.
✨ Over 3 million impressions
People have interacted with the things I’ve created over 3 million times. WHAT?!!
✨ 1486 posts
I got to share my knowledge and talk about what’s most important to me nearly 1500 times & you repeatedly showed up in the comments to join the conversation (2.31% engagement rate).
✨ 5 Equity Advisor Gigs
All of which came as a result of connections I made with folks during the past 1000 days.
✨ 1 LinkedIn Top Voices Badge
That still feels a bit surreal but I am soaking up the hard-earned recognition.
✨ 1 book with 1 in the works
Not only did I become a published Author as a direct result of relationships built on LinkedIn. I was also introduced to a group of some of the most amazing people I know via a book writing masterclass workshop hosted by Andy Paul.
✨ 27k + followers
Which is 15K+ more than I had in October 2020 even with me continuously deleting spammers!
✨ 100s of meaningful connections
^^^
& let’s be real, while LinkedIn has been a lead gen tool and a place for me to find jobs, the value of those benefits pales in comparison to LinkedIn as a tool to build community.
& let’s be realer, these stats are sexy but it has required a lot of hard work and determination.
✨ Consistency is Critical ✨
In the first 300 days, my posts averaged 11 likes. ELEVEN.
Do you know how tough it is to show up and create every single day when, on a good day, you might get 15 people to interact with your content?
You probably do if you’ve read this far. It’s ROUGH #amirite?
In the past 300 days, my posts averaged 37 likes with a 2.87% engagement rate.
You might be thinking, 37, that’s it. Dang, Leslie, are you sure it’s worth it? And I would kindly point you to the stats I shared above.
It’s worth it. Full stop.
I am not a mainstream creator. I probably never will be. And that’s OK. I don’t look like the stereotype of a salesman & I frequently use my platform to talk about social justice.
What you don’t see in the stats, is that writing 1500 posts has been a creative journey.
It has been a journey that has allowed me to reclaim and tell my story, even the ugly parts.
It’s a journey that has allowed me to tell other people - you are not alone.
With each post, I gave a little bit more of my story.
Each time I hit publish, I did it with a bit more confidence.
Here’s how I did it. It’s one of the shortest, hardest to-do lists you’ll ever see:
💙 I made a plan to post daily. I did it on day one and I’ve kept doing it for 1000 days.

Do you want to get started?
My dirty little secret is that I batch-create my content. Batch creating alleviates the pressure of having to create daily which is essential for me.
It also allows me to be creative when I feel most creative so I enjoy the process of creating (a mouthful but I think you get it).
And, it leaves me extra time to engage in the comments and the comments are where community is made.
+ talk about the things you are more passionate about in a way that feels genuine. Don't worry about having all of the answers or trying to sound smart, just share your perspective. That's what folks appreciate most.
To kick-start my Creator journey I wrote down a list of Creators who were consistently posting content that resonated with me.
I wish I could find the original list but it had folks like Andy Paul , Kevin "KD" Dorsey , Cynthia Barnes & Samantha McKenna on it.
I blocked time to make sure I engaged with their content at least once a week. Engaged meaning left a meaningful comment on their post.

People started finding me 💙
I started sending out 50 invites a week to folks I wanted to network with.
I stopped waiting for community to come to me & started building the newsfeed I wanted to see.
💙 I led with an open palm instead of a closed fist.
I showed up every one of those 1000 days with a goal to give more than I received.
That’s it.
4 simple steps.
🎉 If you’ve read this far, thank you.
🎉 If you’ve followed along and supported my journey, thank you.
P.S. Your voice matters. Is today your day 1 of 1000?
