12 Question Hotel Supervisor Quiz

Are you Suitable to be a Hotel Supervisor Yet?

Chances are, there are a few great Hotel Supervisors in your Hotel that aren't yet in managerial positions? And chances are there are some Hotel Supervisors who might have got their jobs a bit too soon? But, what are the real signs that a Hotelier is ready to take on a Hotel Supervisory role? Ask yourself these questions:

Can you manage yourself? One key indicator that an employee has really come into their own is when they require less and less time to manage. The only way someone can ever hope to be a manager is if they can manage themselves.

Do you volunteer for leadership roles? A team member who volunteers for a leadership role is more likely to be ready for management.

Have you changed your vocabulary from "mine" to "ours?" Going from being an employee to a supervisor occurs when team members begins to understand a manager's point of view. Looking for subtle changes in a team member's conduct. This may be a simple choice of words.

Are you proactive? - there is something to be said when a team member jumpstarts their workload without them having to be instructed continuously.

Are you a selfish worker? If an employee is concerned for their co-worker's success as much as their own within their department or on their shift, that's usually a very good sign you want others to succeed. Great managers are selfless leaders that want the unit to succeed together like this.

Do you already manage without realising it? When a staff member is ready they are already taking on managerial roles without realising it.

Do you excel above expectations? When you naturally want to lead others in all their work - when you excel far above expectations in everything you are doing - it's time for a promotion.

Have you mastered your technical craft? Once you have mastered your craft - but before you get bored explore your interest in leading others.

Do you show ingenuity? A great sign is someone who not only manages existing tasks, but also takes initiative in creating or improving other tasks and processes for the benefit of the Hotel.

Do you look for solutions? Always bringing solutions instead of problems. A good manager will understand and have mastered this art form.

Do you take ownership? Leading a team is about understanding the big picture and understanding how the assets available to you can help you? Employees who approach every task as if its success or failure is a direct reflection on them are ready.

Do you want to be a Hotel Supervisor? It's very simple. The most important sign is that you want to be in a managerial role and you are ready to ask for it.
