Some New technologies in endoscopy

Colonography CT CT colonography, also known as virtual colonoscopy, uses a CT scan and computer software to provide an image of the inside of the colon (large intestine). Additionally, images of the remaining intra abdominal organs are taken. These photos can be adjusted to imitate colonoscopy images. Colonoscopy, on the other hand, examines the interior of the colon using a video-equipped scope inserted via the anus and into the colon.

Chromoendoscopy/High Definition Scopes/Narrow Band Imaging

Endoscopic images are advancing in a manner analogous to those of high-definition televisions. A new generation of endoscopes utilising high-definition imaging with amazing detail is being developed. Not only does high definition provide the physician with a sharper image, but the higher resolution of the image also provides additional information. When endoscopists are attempting to identify small polyps, early cancer, and flat lesions, the inclusion of high definition may aid in the detection of these abnormalities.

Fine Needle Aspiration/Endoscopic Ultrasound

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is a technology that uses sound waves known as ultrasound during an endoscopic treatment to examine the gastrointestinal tract wall or to look through it. The layers of the gastrointestinal tract wall, the liver, pancreas, lymph nodes, and bile ducts can be viewed using this approach. EUS scopes are identical to conventional endoscopes with the addition of an ultrasonic transducer. Under continuous real-time ultrasound guidance, a tiny needle can be inserted into these structures to retrieve tissue aspirate. This method is referred to as a fine needle aspirate (FNA). The FNA cells can be smeared on a microscope slide and examined for abnormalities such as malignancy. The study of cells is known as cytology.
