Would you ever buy a Ferrari with a cranky old engine from a 1998 Ford Fiesta?

A roaring Ferrari - the pinnacle of modern car excellence - with a rusty ol' screechy 1998 Ford Fiesta engine?

Can you seriously imagine that?

You're turning onto the motorway (or highway for you Americans) in your dazzling, sleek red Ferrari.

The people in the cars around look in awe.

And then as you're pulling onto the motorway you put the foot down to the floor, and…

..nothing.

No noise comes out.

The car just gradually catches up with the pace of the traffic as you pull over into the lanes.

And then the traffic in front of you brakes suddenly causing you to slow down before it speeds right back up.

But it takes you another steady 25-30 seconds to regain your speed.

Can you imagine this? Because I can't, and I'm the one writing it!

It's completely illogical, right?

So then here's the real question behind all of this:

Why should a CEO or Business Director - the pinnacle leadership points within any business - have the screechy old engine of a 1998 Ford Fiesta that's slow and very un-sexy?

It makes zero sense.

It's not enough to stick a yellow badge with a black horse on a random red car.

Just like it's not enough to put a nice flashy watch and a sleek suit on a sub average unhealthy physique.

The Ferrari still has to perform; when the traffic brakes suddenly it should be quick to get back up to speed while staying under control.

Likewise when you hit an unexpected wall, you should be quick to sort the issues out while keeping a lid on your stress response.

But no matter how you cover it up and dazzle the crowd, you can't keep up with the Lambos when your hiding an energy deficient 1998 Ford Fiesta engine in a Ferrari Enzo.

How to Build & Install Your Ferrari Engine:

First concept to understand; time.

What makes a race car succesful in basic terms?

It's ability to efficiently use energy to do more in less time - basically to produce more energy and go further, faster, while using less energy from it's fuel source so that it lasts marginally longer.

In layman’s terms: Time = Energy.

By that we mean, time isn't the problem if the Ferrari too slow to get around the track.

If the Ferrari is slow to get around the track, horsepower production and energy usage is the problem. Whether that's engine energy, or wind downforce dynamics energy.

It's about finding marginal gains…

Marginal gains to increase energy output and efficiency so that it takes less time to get over the finish line with marginally less pit stops, marginally more fuel reserves, and marginally quicker than the competition.

Time isn't the problem - energy is.

Second stage; Installation

Now that you understand the real problem, here's what I do as a mechanic [if you will] for my Executive clients:

Look at your day to day and week to week objectively. That means, look at it without judging and looking at the problems, in the same way Ferrari looks at wind not as a resistant force, but as something to dynamically use.

Would a Ferrari be faster without wind resistance?

Yes - in a straight line. But that's unrealistic. And life isn't a straight line anyway, we all know this. We need resistance.

Now back to you. Your calendar is booked up, fires need putting out left-right-and-centre, kids need looking after, and you have travel coming up.

Think about how a Ferrari uses the force of wind.

They don't build a big square red metal block with tyres on all sides so that the wind slows the car down.

No, they use air resistance productively to give better grip and stability.

In this same sense…

Can you stand up on more work calls..?

Can you turn certain calls into walking phone calls..?

Can you walk about more in the airport during travel instead of sitting & waiting..?

Can you order healthy prepped meals that get delivered to you..?

Look, these are just a few basic examples that may or may not be specific to you.

It's easy to say I'll be travelling so I can't exercise if all you see is the wind resistance and not the good force it can be used for.

A Final Word:

I ain't saying it's easy. The point I'm trying to get into your head is twofold:

  1. That energy production & efficient usage is your true challenge - not time or lack of it.
  2. And that resistance and challenges can be turned into positive energy and used for your goals if you look with an objective eye instead of a blameful one. Remember: you can blame the wind for slowing you, or you can use it.
