2 Rules: The 2024 Round Up

2 Rules: The 2024 Round Up

On 24th January 2024, we launched the MCO Performance monthly newsletter. Like a lot of initiatives in a start up business, what started as a seed of an idea soon became a core component of our external communications plan. Now, with 12 editions under our belt and over 2,400 subscribers, we’re reflecting on an incredible year and revisiting some of the key lessons we’ve shared along the way in 2 Rules.

January: Time to Take Action

We kicked off the year with a strong message and the official launch of MCO Performance. This edition served as a reminder that taking that first step, even if it’s imperfect, is the catalyst for success. Progress is built on action, not perfection so stop thinking and start doing!

February: It’s Not Rocket Science

In February, we demystified the idea of high performance. It’s not a dark art reserved for the chosen few, it’s an intentional state that can be achieved through the implementation and continual tracking of simple, effective strategies. Anyone can enhance their output with the right approach and focus.

March: You’re the Mummy of the House

This edition explored leadership and responsibility, using the metaphor of being the 'Mummy' of the house in the context of your team. As a leader, you need to make sure that you’re practicing regulation techniques so that this becomes a default response to high-pressure situations. And in the same way children need clarity, boundaries, reward and recognition, the grown up children in our work lives…AKA our teams, need this too.

April: Club vs Country – Who Is Your First Team?

In April, we tackled the issue of loyalty and competing commitments. This edition encouraged reflection on your ‘first team’ in your professional life and stressed the importance of knowing when to switch from Club to Country to ensure business success and elevate the standards for those around you.

May: The Secret Sauce to Selling

In May, we revealed the key ingredients for sales success. We discussed how top salespeople distinguish themselves through authenticity, empathy, and preparation, qualities that allow them to build trust and close deals more effectively.

June: Every Racehorse Needs a Shetland Pony

June’s newsletter used a unique analogy to highlight the importance of balance and support within high-performing teams. Just as a racehorse needs a dependable Shetland pony for companionship and stability, the strongest teams need both high achievers and solid, steady support to thrive.

July: Enduring & Enjoying – Making the Juice Worth the Squeeze

July focused on the mindset needed to persevere through challenges. It’s not just about getting through tough times; it’s about finding ways to enjoy the journey and making sure that your efforts are worth the reward.

August: High-Stakes Suits – Playing Your Cards Right

In August, we explored navigating high-pressure situations, emphasising the importance of understanding your team's diverse skills and personalities. A strong leader knows when to rely on each member. Success hinges on strategic thinking, managing risks, and making the right moves when the stakes are high.

September: Never Waste a Downhill

September’s newsletter urges you to take advantage of momentum when things are going well. In business…just like in the Saturday Park Run, it’s crucial to capitalise on the easier times to prepare for the challenges that lie ahead.

October: Consistency is the Key to Connection

Networking can feel like a dark art, but in October’s edition, we discussed two rules that can help you get back in the game! Urging you to stay consistent in your networking efforts and meaningful when making connections, these buildable skills help you strive towards excellence.

November: Self-Indulgence is Not Self-Care

With the festive period on the horizon, we took the time to reflect on what true self-care is as we prepare to wind down over the holidays. In this edition, we explored the difference between temporary indulgences and genuine self-care. It highlights how true self-care involves investing in your long-term wellbeing, even if it means prioritising discipline over comfort. By focusing on what truly recharges and supports you, you can build resilience and achieve sustainable growth.

If you’re a first-time follower or seasoned subscriber of 2 Rules, thank you. This newsletter is an outlet for us to connect with our audience and allows us to challenge ourselves to present performance theory in a highly practical, relatable way. We look forward to sharing more of our musings in 2025 and hope that it inspires you to drive positive action within your business.
