The 10 Books Most Requested by Public School Teachers
Over the last 12 years, more than 250,000 teachers have requested materials for their students through DonorsChoose.org. That activity has generated a mountain of data about which materials are most needed in our public schools, and books are the most frequently requested material.
Thanks to the analysis of Jeremy Kratz, we’ve compiled the most popular books on our site:
- Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (Grades 6-8)
- Diary of a Wimpy Kid Series by Jeff Kinney (Grades 3-4)
- Percy Jackson and The Olympians by Rick Riordan (Grades 4-6)
- Harry Potter Series by J. K. Rowling (Grades 4-6)
- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (Grade 9)
- The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie (Grade 9)
- The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne (Grade 9)
- Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson (Grade 9)
- Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher (Grade 9)
- Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli (Grades 4-5)

I think all these books are interesting n my daughter read almost most of them . But for children it's quite difficult but parents can help them by reading these .

12yMy students loved "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" and "Speak." I don't think these books are crap at all. Isn't the reason students don't read is because they get books that aren't interesting? I say give them at least one of these young adult novels.

12yMy favourite books to read as a child were Roald Dahl's many stories (Charlie and the Chocolate Factor, The BFG, James and the Giant Peach) and Ursula LeGuin's books (the Earthsea trilogy was my introduction to her huge body of work).
