2023 in Review: Building a Better Future for Family Caregivers

As the National Alliance for Caregiving closes out 2023, we're reflecting on a year full of meaningful achievements in support of America's 53 million family caregivers.

I'm incredibly proud of NAC's role and leadership over the past year. Through our tireless advocacy, collaboration, and unwavering dedication, we have made important strides in advancing policies and initiatives to value the contributions of the family caregivers who are central to our families, communities and economy.

You can learn more about our big wins by reading our 2023 impact snapshot here or by watching our end-of-year highlight reel!

Highlights include:

  • We won a major Medicare rule change to help train family caregivers providing complex care.
  • We secured $20 million in new federal funding to implement the National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers (a down payment)!
  • We shaped more than 4,000 media stories on family caregiving, including this Washington Post Live interview on cancer caregiving.
  • We won a $2.5 million federal award to address gaps in caregiving research.
  • We issued 4 new briefs to guide action for caregivers in mental health, transplant care, and cancer care.

As we look towards the year ahead, we are filled with optimism and resolve about the change that's possible in caregiving policy and practice. We remain committed to working alongside partners like you to build a future where all family caregivers have the support and resources they need and deserve.

Together, we will continue to raise awareness, drive policy change, and empower caregivers to navigate their journeys with confidence and strength.
