2024 Personal Strategic Planning

2024 Personal Strategic Planning

As the new year starts, one key thing that guarantees success is for you and me to put up our personal strategic plans.

Many of us as professionals have been involved in this process for our companies many on more than one occasion and we have seen the innate benefit of this simple but sometimes complex and time-consuming process. But with a bit of hindsight, you'll agree that this process works.

Let's start from the reason behind many people not doing it. The process is boring! It involves thinking Indepth and out of the box. And you'll agree with me that many of us are not deep thinkers. It is easier to talk and make mouth but not easy to think on paper and propel your mind upward to 12 months or more ahead. The other reason is that people do not know how to do it and most times, reluctant to learn them.

So, what does it really take to start:

  • Time: You need some time to sit down and reflect on the past, present and future
  • Tools: Need to know simple things to use and leverage
  • Dedication: You surely need this to get it off ground and commit to it going forward.

According to Brain Tracy, we have seven areas where we need to invest energy and personal focus to remain very successful.

Areas are highlighted below:

  1. Business and CareerHow do you become extremely successful and satisfied to move to the top of your field?
  2. Family and Personal LifeHow do you achieve balance between external success and your personal relationships?
  3. Money and InvestmentsHow do you get your financial life under control and achieve financial independence?
  4. Health and FitnessHow do you achieve and maintain high levels of fitness, energy and overall well-being?
  5. Personal Growth and DevelopmentHow do you identify and acquire key knowledge and skills that you need to live an extraordinary life?
  6. Social and Community ActivitiesHow do you structure your life to make a real difference in the world and leave a lasting legacy?
  7. Spiritual Development and Inner PeaceHow do you organize your inner life and thinking so that you realize your full potential as a human being?

Amidst these seven areas, the fact is that not all of them are important to us all in same sequence. This is where it is important to prioritize them in terms of importance.

After laying down each of the areas, write down minimum of three things you'll do in those areas and the tactical actions to take and target dates.

The secret in pulling this off is not aim for perfection. It is your document and you're trying to design the course of your life in your own best ways. So, there is no right or wrong answer.

Three things are important when you finish the document:

  1. Review it with someone close to you who can challenge what you've put down in a positive way.
  2. Choose an accountability partner that you'll review progress with montghly
  3. Set up a weekly reminder on your calendar where you can read through what you've put down weekly and check the tractions you're making.

That's it friends, try your hands on it this first week of the year before things becomes busy for you. Taking out sometime to lay out your thoughts and life plans can have a profound benefit and propel you to a new and successful landscape.

Give it a shot and let me know how it goes.
