In 2024, Unemployed Job Seekers Need To Do A Lot More Than Just Get Hiring Manager Interviews

I hear this all the time from unemployed job seekers:

"All I need to do is get in front of hiring managers ..."

Sure, if you aren't getting enough interviews, or aren't getting past initial HR/recruiters screening, then you'll need to advance in the hiring process more often. One-and-done interviews aren't helping you land your next job.

But even if in the past, you've been able to quickly convince hiring managers that you're the best choice, it's different in 2024, especially if you're unemployed.

That's because you face so many competitors in this year's job market, that hiring managers know they'll have many choices and opportunities to improve their teams.

Compare this to the past decade (other than during COVID), when hiring managers faced a shortage of qualified candidates. They and their teams were overworked and overwhelmed, because hiring managers couldn't find enough help. Many made hiring decisions quickly on one of the first qualified candidates they met, just to fill holes in their teams, before more people left.

But in 2024, you face a shortage of jobs, compared to the 80M currently job seekers searching (9.4 more candidates than available jobs). Hiring managers expect between 5-10 applicants competing for each interview spot. Today, it's easy for hiring managers to find qualified candidates, so they have the ability to choose the candidate who is most likely to help improve team performance.

And that's exactly why you need to do more than just get in front of hiring managers. It's why you need to do more than just sow how qualified you are, because the other applicants that get to the hiring manager are also qualified. And you have to overcome the risks you present to hiring managers because you're unemployed.

Your biggest problem is when you do get in front of hiring managers, the career resources you've depended on have taught you how to appear qualified - They haven't taught you how to prove that you can do more than other qualified candidates. (Most career coaches, outplacement advisors, and resume writers were taught to portray candidates as qualified during their own certification training).

You'd already be proving to hiring managers that you can do more, that you can improve the performance of their team, if you knew how.

That's where I come in ... I've taught over 50K unemployed job seekers how to prove they'll do more for hiring managers, and helped them get hired faster.
