2024 A Year of Innovation, Outreach, and Impact

Over the years, Manupatra has become synonymous with legal research, a trusted name that revolutionized how professionals access and interact with legal information. As we approach a momentous milestone - our 25th anniversary in 2025 - Manupatra has grown far beyond its origins, embodying a dynamic ecosystem that serves much more than a legal research platform. 

Through our suite of LegalOps products, we aim to address the multiple aspects of legal practice and operations. Each product is designed to address the unique pain points faced by lawyers across the industry—spanning litigation, corporate legal teams, banks, the judiciary, government, and beyond.  

• ManuComply: Our compliance management platform, recognized by regulators, ensures seamless regulatory compliance across industries. 

• MyKase facilitates seamless case tracking across 10,000+ courts, streamlining case workflows, communication, and billing. It also includes robust Notice Management and IPR Management, making it a comprehensive solution for legal operations.  

• ManuContract: Empowering professionals with smart tools for contract creation, repository management, and integration with MS Word, driving simplicity and efficiency in contract lifecycle management. 

• Manupatra Academy offers you a trusted source for insights, knowledge, innovation, and more, since staying informed is essential in today’s fast-paced world.  

Reflecting on 2024: A year of growth and challenges. While we missed a few targets, it was largely a successful year with all our LegalOps products now live and deployed across multiple installations. We remain committed to delivering customized solutions, adapting to our users' unique working styles and requirements wherever needed. 

Manupatra Legal Research Platform Introduced:  

• Introduced AI Gists across judgements which provides quick insights.  

• Corresponding Provisions: Seamlessly navigate between the newly enacted criminal laws and the repealed IPC, Cr.PC, and Evidence Act, with clickable links for effortless comparisons. 

• Bare Acts with Effective Dates: Highlighting exact implementation dates for all provisions. 

We launched Weekly Wrap, a Newsletter which provides a concise round-up of the week’s key legal updates [cases, notifications, international news, legislation et. all.], keeping all readers informed on the go. 

Manupatra Daily Watch, an enhanced service delivering personalized legal updates, including judgments, notifications, and Acts, directly to subscribers’ dashboards and inboxes. 

Recognition 

Our CEO, Deepak Kapoor, was recognized as a finalist for the Outstanding Legal Innovator Award at the ALITA Awards 2024.  

Collaborations and Thought Leadership 

• We partnered with organizations such as Civis, Justice Adda, Agami, SILF, Law Octopus, Bettering Results, MNLU,NUSRL, NLU Delhi, NLU Odisha, RV University, Manipal Academy for Higher Education , General Counsel Association of India (GCAI) and many more.  

• Supported the Justice J.S. Verma Fellowship an initiative by the Supreme Court Lawyers Welfare Trust, by providing complimentary subscriptions to winners  

Outreach and Education 

• Law Teachers Conclave: The Law Teachers Conclave, a pioneering initiative focused on recognizing and celebrating the role of law educators, concluded its series with the East Conclave in partnership with NLUO. The South Conclave with RV University Bengaluru, North Conclave with NLU Delhi and West Conclave with GNLU, Gandhinagar. The series brought together over 800 teachers.   

• First-Year Webinar Series, targeted webinars on decoding judgments, internships, moot court preparation, and legal research designed specifically for first-year students embarking on their law education journey 

• Conducted 250 in-person live sessions across law colleges, directly engaging with students and faculty. 

• Collaborated with 85 colleges on 101 programs and events. 

• Launched an exclusive offer for the Class of 2024, providing 3 months of complimentary access to our legal research platform, to empower graduating law students with the tools to kickstart their careers with confidence and expertise. 

Manupatra’s Campus Ambassador Program has onboarded 35 students, coaching and empowering them to represent Manupatra in their respective institutions.  

Our Manupatra Certified Legal Research (MCLR) Program, now certified by NSDC, is designed to help users assess and validate their online legal research skills, ensuring they stand out in a competitive field. 

Internship Program, welcomed 50 interns who gained hands-on experience across editorial, content aggregation, marketing, and sales, making meaningful contributions to Manupatra’s success. 

Manupatra Academy :We have enhanced our Student Page to include  

• Case Summaries for key judgments included in students' syllabi. This concise and well-organized Case Guide became an essential resource, simplifying complex rulings to aid learning. 

• Added the Manupatra Cheat Sheet, a quick-reference tool to help students grasp essential concepts and frequently used features—our most popular resource. 

• Provided Moot Court Resources to support students in preparing for competitions, ensuring they are well-equipped to excel. 

• Built a repository of Conventions and Treaties, enabling students to understand global legal agreements and engage with international legal challenges. 

Free Courses to Build Skills: 

• Understanding Legal Research: A Step-by-Step Approach 

• Essentials of Legal Research & Publication, helping students master the methods and nuances of legal research. 

Workshops and Webinars 

• Conducted 28 webinars on diverse topics like AI, mental health, corporate governance, and digital transformation, featuring eminent speakers. 

• Specialized workshops in Delhi and Mumbai, including sessions on AI and corporate governance. 

• We conducted multiple workshops on digital transformation, helping firms and corporate legal departments identify the right tools and technologies while addressing adoption. Additionally, we facilitated migration processes for several users, ensuring seamless integration and adoption of new systems. 

Surveys and Reports 

In 2024, we conducted comprehensive surveys to explore the evolving dynamics of technology integration and innovation. Key reports include  

1. AI Adoption and Its Impact in the Legal Industry: An Indian Perspective, highlighting the readiness and perceptions around AI in the legal field;  
2. Enhancing Learning Experiences through Understanding Law Student Perspectives on Technology, offering insights into students’ usage and challenges with educational technology; and  
3. Tech-Enhanced Legal Education: Faculty Practices, Challenges, and Needs, which delves into the faculty’s approach and requirements for effective tech adoption in teaching. 

eBook and Referencer on the new criminal laws saw an impressive 22,678 downloads, exhibiting its relevance and impact. 

Looking ahead, as we step into the new year, we're excited to keep pushing boundaries, introduce more things new, and maybe even a few surprises along the way!
