2024 Year In Review: Centre Block’s rehabilitation!

Work is underway to rehabilitate the Parliamentary Precinct. This includes Centre Block, the permanent home of the Senate and the House of Commons on Parliament Hill.

  1. The drilling for 92 geoexchange wells is complete. This network of boreholes holds the key to efficiently heating and cooling the modernized Centre Block.

2. The Terry Fox Memorial Sculpture was moved from Wellington Street to Sparks Street. Its relocation will allow for the rehabilitation of the city block across from Parliament Hill.

3. A third crane was installed on Parliament Hill. It will support the construction of the new underground Parliament Welcome Centre.

4. Twenty-two of the Peace Tower carillon’s smaller bells were restored in the Netherlands. The larger bells will be cleaned on site.

5. Redevelopment of the city block across from Parliament Hill – known as Block 2 – officially began. The redesigned block will eventually house office space for the Senate, the House of Commons and the Library of Parliament.
