3 Climate Trends - Issue 13
Decarbonizing the shipping sector, reforestation innovations and the importance of soil health – these are the stories covered in this issue of the World Economic Forum’s 3 Climate Trends newsletter, your guide to climate, nature and sustainability in an ever-changing world.
1. How zero-emissions #fuels are changing the #shipping industry
Around 80% of all goods are moved by ships, which results in over a billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions yearly.
This translates into 2-3% of annual global emissions, but new fuels are helping the sector clean up.
A new generation of shipping fuels is being developed to accelerate the decarbonization of the shipping sector.
Green hydrogen and its derivatives, e-ethanol and e-ammonia are emerging as cornerstone solutions for maritime decarbonization.
2. These organizations are helping protect the world's #trees
Over a third of tree species are at according to the IUCN , with the biggest threats coming from agriculture, logging and urbanization.

They now account for a quarter of the IUCN 's most endangered species list.
Find out how five organizations are helping to protect them in the video below.
3. Why #soil health is integral to beating climate change
Roughly 95% of all food supply relies on healthy soils, yet nearly a third of global agricultural land is degraded.
Improving soil health is key to enhancing plant-driven carbon sequestration, increasing crop yields and restoring the negative impact traditional intensive agriculture has had on the environment.
The World Economic Forum recently released a community paper on Scaling Technology Adoption for Soil Health: A Focus on Africa, which looked at the sector’s many investment-worthy innovation opportunities and how they can be scaled.
Find out how we can ensure a sustainable food supply for the future in this article from the World Economic Forum 's Tania Strauss , Pedro G Gomez Pensado and OCP Group 's Iliass ELFALI here.

1moAround the world we need to talk more about soil. Starting with myself, I don't see much content in simplified language talking about the vital importance of soil. I just watched a few contents about soil. I hope to learn more and see on tv more about soil and it's solutions.
Progress! New fuel and agricultural policies will make improvements! Let's hope all the diversity of trees and other rare plants are not cut down before legislation is organised to regenerate them all!!
