3 Crazy Simple Email Growth Strategies: Step-by-Step
Do you want to know what gets me feeling a little bit like a kid in a candy store? Email list growth!
You might be asking, “why do you love this topic so much?” You might even be thinking, “list building (or my lack of list building) stresses me out!”
And I get it -- when I didn’t have a list, it stressed me out too. However, I love the topic now because when I finally put effort into growing and nurturing my email list, that’s when my business really took off and allowed me to build the multi-million dollar business I have today.
Make no mistake of it - I would not be as profitable as I am today without my list. No ifs and or buts about it!
In this article, I’m going to share three strategies to grow your email list.
Please note: these do require you to have a lead magnet created.
If you’re just starting out, keep it simple! It doesn’t have to be some big, crazy thing, but you do need a lead magnet to give away for free to attract your audience and grow your email list.
Use these proven strategies to 3X (or more) your email list. And the best part is that they are so simple that you can start implementing them right away. Get ready for some serious email growth!
Here’s a quick peek at the three strategies!
- Attract leads with intentional SEO
- Mingle with your ideal customer
- Get pop-up savvy on your website
Strategy #1: Attract Leads With Intentional SEO
SEO -- Search Engine Optimization -- is a wonderful way to gain some real-time, tangible insight into what words could potentially drive traffic to your website and, in turn, get the right people on your email list.
The best way to use SEO to boost your traffic, engagement, and attract your ideal customer is to do a little research and find intentional keywords that align with your expertise and lead magnet and use them in all of your content.
Here’s an example of how to find those magical keywords. Let’s use my student, Nakita Attard Vassallo’s lead magnet, to help clarify this strategy.
Nakita’s free resource or lead magnet is called “100 Simple Recipes: A Free Must-Have Resource To Make Meal Planning As Easy As A-B-C.”
Because Nakita caters to busy moms looking to create a life they love by reclaiming their time with effective time management strategies, her keywords might look like:
- meal planning
- busy moms
- simple recipes
- family-friendly recipes
- quick recipes
You’re turn! Make a list that aligns with your business to use throughout your copy.
Strategy #2: Mingle With Your Ideal Customer
Facebook groups are a fantastic way to find your ideal customer because people genuinely use them for everything these days.
This strategy will require a little elbow grease, but trust me when I say it’s worth it.
Using the keywords you discovered in the first strategy, type those into the Facebook search bar, and click on the “Groups” icon.
Spend a little time looking over these groups and exploring them so that you can see if they are a good place to connect with the type of customer you want on your email list and in your funnel.
How to determine if the group is a good fit:
- Start by checking out the description to get an idea of what the group is all about, who it’s for, and if it relates to your business.
- Take note of the level of engagement and if there are recent and up-to-date posts. Many groups can be from years ago with little or no recent engagement.
- Pay attention to how much engagement, as in likes and comments, these posts are receiving. Only groups with a healthy level of participation are worth your time.
- Look for your ideal customer by reading some of the posts and comments. Do you see anyone with the struggles, desires, or needs that your ideal customer has?
After doing a little research, select three to five Facebook groups that you’re going to join and offer value.
Strategy #3: Get Pop-Up Savvy On Your Website
The third way is to use pop-ups to get new subscribers on your list and your lead magnet in the inbox of new audience members.
A pop-up is that window that literally “pops up” within a web browser.
Let’s chat about a few different ways to use a pop-up on your website to grow your email list:
Example #1: Ask A Question & Create FOMO
Health and wellness expert, Kris Carr, used a pop-up that said, “Did you get your free gift yet?” She also included a short, keyword-heavy sentence about what the gift is.
I love this because it reminds them that it’s free, creates a little bit of FOMO, and uses words that will resonate with the people she wants on her email list.
Example #2: Use Keyword-Rich Bullets
Focus on using attention-grabbing bullets in your pop-up. These bullets should show why your website visitor needs to sign up to receive your free lead magnet.
Example #3: Small Pop-Up Versus Full-Page Pop-Up
If you’re worried about annoying your audience, consider doing a small pop-up in the corner. This way, you’re still using this email growth strategy but in a subtle way.
