These 3 Easy Habits Will Make You Wake Up More Energized Than Ever Before
At this point, I might call myself a lifestyle hacker.
In the last five years, I've tried countless ideas, habits, ways, methods, and rituals to wake up more energized. I did the cold showers, long meditation sessions, early workouts, and journaling.
Most of what I've tried is hyped and overrated. It promised more than it could deliver. But some silver linings have helped me wake up more energized than ever before.
Here's what I mean.
Skip the blue light before bed
We've all read it somewhere.
Blue light is keeping us awake. While if used right, it can be handy on early winter mornings, it's a complete sleep killer when consumed before bed.
And that's where waking up more energized starts.
Meaning: don't use your phone in bed or in the last 45 minutes before going to bed.
Try to give your time to wind down.
It's incredible how much sunlight can help us with that. When I was camping in Scandinavia in 2018, I realized how I got tired as soon as it turned dark. On the other side, I woke up naturally when the sun rose.
You want that, too.
Don't use your phone right before going to bed. No Instagram, no porn, no texting. Read a book using natural warm light instead.
This will help you sleep deeper and better.
Avoid caffeine within the first 90 Minutes after waking up
Sorry to break it to you, but early morning coffees are a terrible idea.
Yes, even if you feel like it. I was there, too.
When I went to uni, I usually got up at 5:15 am to work out at 6 am. Back then, I thought I couldn't do it without a cuppa Joe.
I was wrong.
Because there's a natural hormone that helps us wake up. It's called cortisol, and its production spikes in the first 90 minutes after waking up.
The problem is that when we consume caffeine, it messes with its production. This means our bodies start to rely on caffeine instead of cortisol to wake us up.
You don't want that.

You want to let your body wake up by itself.
Use water, instead.
Give yourself two weeks to adjust and feel how you'll naturally wake up more energized.
Make a high-impact habit first
You went to bed without blue light and woke up without coffee or an energy drink.
This means you get the chemical part of things right. Now, it's time for the mental part.
A couple of years ago, I read about "setting the tone" for the rest of the day by doing one high-impact habit first.
I had no idea that I'd been doing it already.
Hitting the gym and getting a good workout helped me stay focused. I didn't have to think about working out feeling sluggish in the evenings and could focus on my studies.
But it doesn't have to be a workout.
A workout can be a great option, and in the future, I'll get back to it again, but it can be something else.
The critical factor is that it has a high impact on your life and gives you the feeling of having achieved something great early in the day.
Right now, it's writing for me.
I'll get up, prepare my GF tea, journal, meditate, and write.
After the writing, I've already done much of what I wanted to do today.
It sets a positive mood for the rest of the day.
Use the power of a high-impact habit to make your day, too.
Waking up more energized and setting the tone is easier than you think if you:
- skip blue light before going to bed
- avoid caffeine within the first 90 minutes of waking up
- do a high-impact habit first early in the morning
What do you do to wake up in beast mode?
