Leadership is not about commands or control—it’s about connection, influence, and impact. At its core, leadership is built on communication, and the right words, spoken at the right time, can inspire change, build trust, and drive action.

Today, I want to share the three most powerful words in leadership, why they matter, and how to use them to elevate your influence and create your own economy.

1. “I Don’t Know”

Admitting that you don’t know something is not a sign of weakness—it’s a mark of confidence and humility. Great leaders don’t pretend to have all the answers. Instead, they demonstrate a willingness to learn and a commitment to finding solutions.

  • Why it’s powerful: When you say, “I don’t know,” you create space for collaboration and innovation. It shows your team that it’s okay to not have everything figured out and encourages them to step up and contribute their ideas.
  • How to use it: Pair this phrase with a proactive follow-up. For example, “I don’t know the answer, but let’s figure it out together.” This shifts the focus from the problem to the process of solving it, reinforcing your role as a leader who empowers others.

2. “I Appreciate You”

Gratitude is one of the most underrated leadership tools. Acknowledging and appreciating the efforts of others fosters loyalty, motivation, and trust. People want to feel seen and valued, and as a leader, it’s your responsibility to create that environment.

  • Why it’s powerful: When you express appreciation, you build emotional capital. Your words become a source of encouragement that drives performance and strengthens relationships.
  • How to use it: Be specific in your appreciation. Instead of a generic “Good job,” say, “I appreciate the way you handled that client issue—it showed incredible poise and creativity.” This level of detail amplifies the impact of your words and makes your appreciation feel genuine.

3. “What Do You Think?”

True leadership is not about having all the answers but about asking the right questions. Inviting input from others shows that you value their perspectives and encourages engagement. It’s a simple phrase, but it holds immense power in fostering collaboration and trust.

  • Why it’s powerful: This question shifts the focus from you to your team, empowering them to take ownership of their work. It also gives you access to ideas and insights you might not have considered.
  • How to use it: Use this phrase during meetings, brainstorming sessions, or even one-on-one conversations. For example, “We’re considering a new strategy—what do you think about this approach?” This not only invites diverse viewpoints but also signals that you trust their expertise.

Why These Words Matter
