3 Patterns to STOP Doing this December to Stay Healthy

3 Patterns to STOP Doing this December to Stay Healthy

Do you get sick at the end of December?

Or do you barely make it through December just to begin the new year sick?

Does the hustle and bustle of the season PLUS end of the year tasks find you being sick, exhausted and barely getting through the holidays and into the new year?

One of the things I'm saying in almost every client session is: How can you stay HEALTHY in December and into January.

High performers are doers. You get things done.

Often you're so busy getting things done that you don't even realize you are beyond exhausted and stepping into your typical end of the year and holiday pattern of getting sick.

December is a month that typically takes you to your breaking point. There is another way and you have time to create a new experience for yourself this holiday and end of the year season.

These are the 3 patterns I see as a Medium, that you can change this December:

1. Over Committing

High performers in particular have a tendency to not want to let people down. Let's say you have a tendency to people please more often than not.

This isn't typically a good thing for you, but as you enter the holiday season and end of the year work tasks, it often leaves your energy depleted.

Instead of over scheduling yourself this December, ask yourself:

WHAT am I giving up by over committing?

What are you saying NO to for yourself?

There is only so much TIME in a day. When you overspend your time, you don't have the time to do things that are important for you, like: getting enough sleep at night, you'll eat the wrong foods for your body because it's easier, or skip out on your exercising again because you'll do it tomorrow.

Over committing means you lose TIME. Time is your most precious commodity and it's even more precious in the month of December.

New Pattern to Stay Healthy:

Before you commit to something, LOOK at your calendar.

Does it feel busy?

Does this new thing feel doable?

What does taking this on take away from you?

If it feels good after you answer the questions above, then do it. If not, then don't.

Hint: saying "no" gives you time and energy back. Don't even feel bad about saying no as that costs a lot of energy!

2. Overdoing

High performers get more done than most workers do. I often tell my clients that they are operating at 200% and their coworkers are operating at about 80% if that. I haven't had a client yet tell me that wasn't their experience.

Here's the thing about overdoing - you over spend your energy.

Think about this:

How much ENERGY did my cell phone and devices have when I woke up this morning?

How much ENERGY did I HAVE when I woke up this morning?

I bet you didn't start this morning at 100%. The more you over do by over working, the more energy you spend. If you spend more energy than you have, this is HOW YOU GET SICK!

New Pattern to Stay Healthy:

You fix over doing by recharging.

Just like your devices need to be charged, so do you.

Recharging is self-care. It doesn't have to be expensive or take a lot of time, it just has to give you energy back.

You know you've recharged when you feel BETTER after you've done something.

3. Over Giving

High performers have a tendency to over give. You see a need and you GIVE a solution.

While it is nice to help and to go above and beyond, it's not good for you to be doing this all the time or in the month of December.

I know, November and December have become months of giving but you give ALL year round. You don't have to buy into the holiday giving theme when this is already your motto. Now you're over giving like you're overdoing. Stop!

Over giving is typically you giving your TIME and ENERGY. Or something you bought with your money which also required your time and energy to earn.

While you make someone else feel better, you ignore the cost to you. The more you over give, the bigger the cost to you.

New Pattern to Stay Healthy:

Before you over give or over extend, ask yourself:

WHY are you doing this?

Are you the ONLY person who can do this?

What do you lose by over giving?

How much over giving have you already done?

By checking in before you over give, you allow yourself the space to check in with your time and energy and see if you have these to spend.

If you have the time and energy, do it. If you don't, don't.

By stopping how you over spend and over give of your time and energy this December, you will have the time and energy to recharge and make self-care a priority. This is how you stay healthy, present and happy through the holidays and all the end of the year business tasks.

Happy holidays and Happy New Year! Stay healthy this year and let me know which tip helped you do this!
