3 Signs to use Today to tell you about your Business Tomorrow

I’m not a magician or a psychic, and I don’t own a crystal ball.

And yet I’ve found, through the many conversations I have with women in business, that I’m really good at predicting the future.

Interestingly we tend to treat the future like it’s this great unknown, unknowable entity, and actually that’s not exactly true.

Because while anyone of us can get knocked over by a bus tomorrow… and so there are always unpredictable things that come along as shocks – the fact is that there’s also a WHOLE lot about the future that’s incredibly predictable.

Because they say 'the only way to predict the future is to create it' – and that’s what we’re doing today.

In this day and age of pandemics and global ongoing uncertainty - predictability comes at a premium, so for today’s #SaturdayServing – I’m sharing 3 powerful tools that I can use today to predict what’ll be going on with you and your business tomorrow.

Sign 1. Your Calendar

The first of these power predictors is your calendar, because the power of your schedule and your use of time is a long cherished focus of those looking to develop professionally and personally.

It’s a great way to tell what tomorrow will hold, because we live our lives in time (not in to-do lists), and so what we’re doing with our time today has a dramatic impact on what your results will be tomorrow.

And our good old friend ‘Pareto’ has much to say about this with his 80/20 rule… as if you spend the majority of your time focusing on things that have little impact or income – it might feel good because some of the most useless things we often do, feels good in the moment… (funny videos anyone?) – and yet, the outcome from there is…

NOTHINGNESS.

How you spend your time today is the very best predictor of what tomorrow will hold for you. So, if you want to know what tomorrow will hold, track what you’re doing now – and if you want to create what tomorrow will hold – design your days with intention, as it will truly help you to predict a better future.

Sign 2. Your Comfort with Discomfort

If you’re planning a future different to the things you have now, you can be sure that it’s going to take you doing things that you’ve not done before.

According to Einstein, to expect anything different would be the definition of insanity… and yet over and over again, I meet women who tell me they want to see new things, but aren’t prepared to try, do and stick at new things.

So it’s always a massive ‘tell’ of predictable future problems when someone is doing something that isn’t working and yet feels really torn about ditching it in favour of something new.

And my answer is always the same…

Nothing changes until you do

And I get that it’s hard, I get that we all want the results without the hassle, hustle and struggle it might take to get there, and yet – that’s how it goes.

Until we change our inputs (which are the only things we have control over, the outputs will remain the same).

In his book ‘Own the Day, Own Your Life’, the author Aubrey Marcos highlighted an interested phenomena that has happened to us as a result of our modern, ‘comfort seeking lifestyles’.

He reminds us that ‘just like our muscles, if we give ourselves no reason to stay hard, then we go soft’ – and we really have.

So if you want to know what the future holds for you – see how many places you are ACTIVELY seeking the things that scare you or cause you to grow, rather than resting in your comfort zone – the answer there will show you much of you need to know. Your comfort with discomfort and your romance with your excuses and reasons to stay comfortable has a lot to say

Sign 3. Your Self-Reflective Practice

We are what we do habitually – and it’s always the case that we shape our habits and then our habits shape us (says James Clear in Atomic Habits). And so many of the habits that we have are incredibly powerful predictors of the kind of future we’re building, from how we start our days to how we define and practice self-care (It's not a cheeky spa day ladies… self-care is less carrot cake/occasional treat, more carrots/essential vitamins and minerals)

And yet the one practice that really changes outcomes is that of self-reflection.

Why?

Because time is a rubbish teacher, and age brings nothing but more time on the planet

Wisdom and improvement can only come from being able to effectively implement what you learn from the things that happen to you.

And that can only come from Learning from the things that happen to you, which needs you to reflect on what happened.

It seems so simple and yet it’s something that happens so rarely.

People fall asleep shattered without reflecting on their day

People go into the new week without reflecting on the old ones

And if you don’t reflect on the life you’re living, you’re consigned to repeating your mistakes while merely getting older.

It can be a difficult thing to do – but your practice of self-reflection is by far the biggest predictor of your future success – Why? Because of this powerful truth courtesy of John Maxwell

‘To grow thyself you have to first know thyself’

Many are investing in tools to grow when they need to be investing in tools to know and discover more about themselves, the one person who will make the most difference to the future you’re building, the hero in your story and the most powerful ally you have.

Many women are changing their futures and gaining support in a daily practice of self-reflection with my proprietary system which is totally transforming their ability to shape and design the futures that they want on sure foundations, as their self-reflection gives them a clear advantage when it comes to apply the learning that they are collecting.

This is by far the most powerful predictor, as those who practice regular powerful self-reflection are far better equipped with anything and all things life has to throw their way.

Bonus Sign – Your questions

As the ultimate ‘why-child’ when I was young – asking questions is definitely one of my superpowers – and yet it’s also an incredible sign of things to come – because answers can only ever be as good as the questions you ask, it’s so important to ensure that you’re focused on asking the right questions that inspire your goals, support your actions and probe the opportunity to learn and grow.

The Questions you're asking today will accurately predict the results you're in line for tomorrow

I hope this list helps to remind you just how much power you have to shape your future and to reinspire you, that you’re doing so today…

And if you wish to find out more about the framework I use to support these 4 key areas, drop me a ‘Fab future’ in my DMs or Comments and I’ll share more information.

You are the difference that will maek the difference to your life and your future - and that starts today.
