3-Step Strategy for Finding Legit Remote Jobs | #007 Remote Roundup

Welcome to a new edition of this week's "The Remote Roundup"

...THE best newsletter for getting inspiration on building a remote career. Voted by me.

What's Cool with Remote This Week?

This week, we found a couple cool things circling around the interwebs about remote life.

We Work Remotely put out an article about "How to Keep Building Your Career Remotely" with things like how to envision your future remote career and how to set specific goals. (Read here)

Remote Workers Save Time according to a study on the subject. Remote workers in the United States saved an average of 55 minutes per day just from working remotely. That kind of time adds up. (Read here)

People Want to Work from the Beach which is no surprise, right? This popular poll I run reveals most of us want to work somewhere warm with sand. You can chime in with your own vote. (Read here)

Top Companies for Work Flexibility these companies were put out by The Muse with the VIBE Awards 2022 for best work flexibility. (Read here)

Remote job postings may be decreasing, but demand keeps going up...

This snippet was featured on LinkedIn News this last week:

Remote job opportunities are growing scarcer. The proportion of paid postings on LinkedIn offering remote work fell to 13.8% in December, from 18.4% a year earlier. Interest in the positions, however, has only grown. The postings attracted 52.8% of all applications on the site last month, up from 46.8% a year earlier — and 45% of all views. Meanwhile, based on profile updates last month, the rate at which members left jobs to begin new ones slowed for an 11th straight month amid layoff announcements and economic uncertainty.

This just means you need to be more strategic and purposeful about how you search for remote opportunities. You have two options:

  • Start your own business or begin freelancing (I love this option)
  • Or, get it together with your remote job search and personal brand

Here's my simple 3-step strategy for landing a remote job quickly:

  1. Head to job boards that specifically offer remote opportunities (i.e., We Work Remotely , Growmotely , etc.). LinkedIn is great but many of the jobs listed are simply scraped from the internet. It's not a place that's 100% centered on remote jobs.
  2. Make a list of 20-30 target companies after conducting a bit of research on remote-focused job boards.
  3. Head to LinkedIn and find the company pages of your targets. Begin connecting with decision makers, recruiters, and even potential peers. Grow relationships naturally. Open up the conversations. Mine for interview opportunities.

Of course, don't be weird about it. People aren't robots, they're human. So, build genuine connections and the opportunities will follow.

BONUS Option #4: Join our Escape the Cubicle Talent Collective

Did you know that EscapeTheCubicle.Substack.Com members get access to an exclusive talent collective? It's pretty cool, I have to admit.

The talent collective is a private pool of talent that we market to recruiters and companies hiring remotely. The recruiters get access to the collective and can message directly to schedule an interview.

It's cuts out the middleman. It saves you time & stress. Reduces heartache. Win/win all around.

If you're interested in finding out more about this talent collective and joining Escape the Cubicle community, just send me a direct DM (because it's invite-only for now).

Calling all Remote Workers (or Remote Wannabes)! We’re slowly opening the doors to Escape the Cubicle Community, an exclusive online community of people who are looking to build thriving remote careers.

Why did we create this community? Because we know it can be a bit isolating trying to do this remote career thing solo. ETC brings together community for support and networking.

Plus, we have a remote job board where we post legit, vetted remote opportunities every. single. day.

Escape the Cubicle is by invite-only, so if you’re interested in checking out the launch, send me a direct message on LinkedIn. I’ll send you more information and link to join.
