3 Things a Leader Must Do To Stay Healthy & Perform
1. DO NOT WAIT TO START…
If you wait to have "more free time" to start doing something about your health and wellness, what do you anticipate will happen the next time life gets busy..?
Life will get busy again. Especially in the life of a businessman and business leader.
Starting when you're not "as busy" already puts the nails in the coffin. It creates the narrative you'll need to stop when you get "busy" again, which will happen.
Contrary to what you think, the best time to start is when you ARE busy. Otherwise you'll never learn how to manage yourself in busy periods which come with the life you live.
It's not about 'having time' - it's about using time effectively & efficiently.
2. WORK ON WHAT NO ONE CAN TAKE…
Working hard to live a good life, achieve success, and provide for your family is important, no argument there.
But working on what no person can ever take away from you is vital if you want to thrive in life.
Working on your self-esteem…
Working on your mental strength…
Working on your character flaws…
Working on character strengths…
Working on your self-awareness…
Working on your emotional intelligence…
Working on your understanding of people…
And working on your insecurities that drive behaviour are all invaluable.
There's no price on these, and no one can steal them or take them away. Yet they all impact work success, relationships, physical health, mental health, motivations, your inner peace, and happiness.
Ignoring and brushing them off is ignorant and will limit you in all of the above.
3. BE EMOTIONALLY SWITCHED ON…
Tying in with the last point, you must be emotionally switched.
Men tend to fall shorter in this department than women, generally speaking, so it should be an important area of learning for male leaders.
That's both internally and externally.

You have to read employees, you have to read partners, you have to read sellers, you have to read your wife, you have to read difficult people, and above all you have to read yourself. On top of all of that, you have to rationally interpret and process them without letting the motions take you for a ride.
Think about it… You have hundreds of potential triggers every day, so ignoring your need for emotional intelligence is once again, ignorant, but not only that, it's also stupid and harmful.
A lack of awareness in this department will create or prolong problems and stress which can [and usually does in some form or another] lead to harmful behaviours i.e. drinking alcohol, comfort eating, outbursts, impulsive decision making, or emotional absence [bottling it up].
All of which lead to weight gain, health problems, relationship problems, financial problems and more.
Now of course there's more to it than this list of 3 things. But these 3 things will solve 90% of your problems around health, performance and wellbeing as a leader.
The first point should get you over this block of "I haven't got enough time".
The second and third points should direct your choices of self-improvement and open your eyes to the fact that positive health & performance in all aspects of life are not just a fitness, gym, or diet problem.
Hope this helps.
