3 Ways to Live a Wholesome Life Despite Being Busy.

3 Ways to Live a Wholesome Life Despite Being Busy.

We are running a life marathon these days- Having jobs, side hustles, and big ambitions for our future life. But are we really living?

There is no escape from things like Yoga, etc.- Things that fitness gurus tell you to do if you want to be fit. But a wholesome living experience demands much more than that.

I’ve hustled between my job and side hustle for two years now. And I’m still doing it. The only difference is I’m my own boss at my day job as well- My Dental Clinic. Contrary to popular belief, being my own boss doesn’t lessen my burden but only increases it.

But I do it because I love it. I started a side hustle because I loved writing. The internet fascinated me. So, yes. Today I can say I’m having a career exactly as I ever wanted.

But does it mean I’m living my life to the fullest?

Not initially.

I was always worried about the next big thing on my to-do list. I had almost no time for family and friends. By the end of the day, I was drained out, lost, and had no energy to do anything else.

Until one day, I took a pause. I told myself that this was not how I wanted to lead my entire life. I never wanted my work to occupy almost every waking second of my life.

The moment I started identifying myself more with the life I wanted, things gradually started to change.

1. Staying with your thoughts

The human mind is the most miraculous body part ever. Each and every aspect of our life starts in our minds. And yet, we take our minds for granted a bit too much.

Unfortunately, we live in a society where working 24 hrs a day is applauded, and taking two days off just to rest is considered laziness.

But, the definitions are changing. Times are changing. With more and more opportunities to earn and live a luxurious life, the need to take a step back is even greater.

No matter your busy schedule, give your mind at least a few minutes to relax. Just stay with whatever thoughts your mind comes up with.

Take a walk, or just sit beside the window in your room. Let your mind wander for a bit without any leash or restrictions. See where your mind takes you and learn to stay with the thoughts it comes up with, even if they are uncomfortable ones.

2. Living in the moment

If you’re watching The show Friends, get involved in it. Get lost in the childishness of Joey, or marvel at the weirdness of Phoebe. Immerse yourself in the cuteness of Ben and Emma, and appreciate Chandler’s funny and, sometimes, not-so-funny jokes.

The point is to really live in the moment. Life may be stressful. But, after doing two jobs for two years, I can assure you that 99% of that stress is self-inflicted.

Please don’t fret over your nosy boss while having a peaceful Sunday afternoon with your family. It’s not fair to you, but more importantly, it’s not fair to the people around you. It’s a shame to think about the next big task on your to-do list while spending precious moments with your kids.

Yes. It’s not easy to suddenly leave all the worries behind. But, with conscious effort for a few days, you can train your mind to focus on one thing at a time.

3. Nurturing relationships

Your parents are not going to be with you forever. Your friends will not always be available for you when you need them. It’s the truth of life- it comes with an expiry date.

It’s okay to leave your work for a few minutes to have a call with your parents. Don’t ignore the calls from your family members just for the sake of ‘work.’ Your parents need you the most, not your money.

It’s easy to overlook our relationships in all the career hustle. It even feels nice to convince ourselves that we’re focusing on our careers.

But think- What’ll you do with an overflowing bank account if you don’t have a family to spend it on or friends to share the perks with?

So, I urge you to attend your mom’s call or the birthday party of your best friend. I urge you to nourish your relationships with love, care, and, most importantly, something priceless- your time.

Life is too short to ignore the smallest of moments with your loved ones. Cherish them as much as you can because there will only be memories one day.
