3D Printing: A Brief History And Applications
The 3D printing technology is surely not as young as some would think. It was the year 1976 that the technology was first introduced with the launch of inkjet printers.
In 1984, a wide range of advancements and modifications to the inkjet printer started to pave the way for printing with materials instead of with ink. Ever since then, 3D printing has been utilized in a multitude of industries. A brief history and applications of 3D printing have been listed below.
History And Applications Of 3D Printing:
The co-founder of 3D systems, Charles Hull, introduced the idea of stereolithography that enabled the printing of 3D tangible objects out of the digital data. The technology helps a great deal in using a picture for the development of a 3D tangible model. On an industrial scale, it is highly cost-effective since a model can be thoroughly tested before investing into the entire process of manufacturing.
The very first stereolithographic equipment was introduced by 3D systems in 1992. The apparatus enabled printing of 3D tangible objects or machine parts in a layer by layer fashion. Although it was not impeccable in terms of functionality, it envisioned the idea of printing highly complex parts overnight.
