These 4 Things Crash Metabolism Over 30.

It’s typical between 30-40 then men feel like their metabolism isn’t what it was in their 20s…

And even though gaining fat becomes easier, yet harder to lose…

Ageing has little to do with it, you’ll see why in a minute.

Adn when you know what causes the crash, you’ll know what to avoid so you can start reversing ‘metabolic adaptation’...

And get your metabolic burn-rate firing again like it was when in your prime shape.

The reality is,

Most men who feel the change in their metabolism, usually were fit, lean and strong for a good part of their life…

And never envisioned they’d look in the mirror and see love handles, man titties or the notorious…

‘Dad bod’ reflecting back at them…

With less energy, feeling puffed after 2 flights of stairs, lower back aches and upsizing suits to feel comfortable.

Yet it happens… More often than not.

And that’s because there’s a combination of causes that can all happen at once…

Which puts the brakes on the metabolism faster than you’d expect.

I'll show you how below.


LOSING MUSCLE

You’ve heard the phrase “Use it, or lose it” before right?

What I mean is, as men get busier, usually after they get married, start a business, quit their job and or become a Dad…

Other priorities take over, and it's easy for the ‘workouts’ to fall off the wagon.

And you may know that muscle takes a longer time to build naturally, like up to a max. of 1 kg / 2 LBS a month which almost halves every 4-6 months…

However, the good thing is that, when you have a higher level of muscle, it’s easier to maintain than it.

But the problem is,

If you were doing 4-5 workouts a week, and then it dropped to 1-2…

After 2 weeks or so, muscle mass starts to shrink to a level that’s only enough for the level of activity you do.

So, if the hardest thing your body does is pick up the kids, carry a laptop bag, sit or stand up from a chair…

Then your body will only give you enough muscle only for that.

And with less muscle, your metabolic burn rate (BMR) gradually decreases. Think of like a V8 in idle... that then becomes like a 4-cylinder in idle.

Which leads us to the 2nd thing…


FALLING OUT OF A WORKOUT ROUTINE

If you were doing 4-5 workouts or cardio a week…

That could be an extra 200-500 calorie burn per workout. So up to 1000 to 2000 plus extra calories you’d burn in a week.

So if your BMR was 1600… And you did a 40 minute workout burning 300 calories…

Now your metabolic burn rate would be 1900 for that day.

But this doesn’t mean you need to do 5 workouts...

For business people, what's more sustainable is at least 2-3 full body workouts a week. Workouts focused on strength and muscle (which relates to the previous point of ‘not losing muscle’).

Which leads us to the 3rd thing…


RAPID DECLINE IN DAILY MOVEMENT

This has a bigger impact on office or desk based business owners and entrepreneurs…

Because when we’re sitting, we’re not moving much at all. So we're not burning much energy and the heart rate also drops.

So for many guys in their 20’s, it was easy for them to get 10,000 to 20,000 steps a day…

But then, overnight that could've dropped to 5000 (on a good day)...

Which could be a 50% to 100% decline in movement (and extra calorie burn).

So if you burnt say 2500 to 3000 calories a day in your 20’s, you could now be only burning 2000 or even less (on a typical day).

And this is what makes the 4th thing a bigger problem…


EATING LOW THERMIC FOODS

The busy lifestyle makes it easier to eat the wrong foods...

By wrong foods, I mean processed foods with a lot of carbs, fats and sugars, that also lack protein.

The problem is, when we eat more processed foods and less protein…

Not only are we less full and crave more food sooner…

Our body doesn’t have to ‘work’ as hard to digest processed carbs, sugars and fats.

And then, when the stress kicks in… The easiest way to feel better is to consume calorie-rich foods or drinks.

Which is how men over 30 end up eating MORE calories…

While burning much LESS calories than before.

On the flipside, if you eat a higher protein diet, with less unprocessed foods...

You get to eat more food (volume wise) gram for gram, compared to “junk foods”...

And the body also has to work a bit harder to digest the real food, increasing the thermic effect in the body. It's more a long-term compound effect, than an overnight metabolic surge.

And this also helps to also stabilize energy, reduce blood sugar spikes and cravings.

The extra protein helps support muscle growth and maintenance long-term.

Which is important because studies show most elder people's diets are ‘protein deficient’ as they age. Making it harder to maintain the little muscle they have, and easier to lose it.


So you can see how a rapid drop in muscle and daily movement…

While eating more calorie rich foods, forces the body to gain more fat.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a beer, or chocolate, a donut, ice-cream or your wife's favorite homemade cake…

I tell my clients to focus on 90/10…

That's 90% clean, high thermic real food, and 10% whatever tickles your fancy.

(And I admit, I often eat fries, dark chocolate or coconut ice-cream)


TLDR

4 things that crash your metabolism include:

  1. Losing muscle
  2. Missing workout calorie burn
  3. Rapid drop in daily movement
  4. Eating low thermic foods.

When you reverse those 4 things, not only will you reverse metabolic adaptation...

You’ll also be able get your lean, fit and strong body back within a realistic time-frame.
