5 BOOKS THAT CHANGED MY LIFE

5 BOOKS THAT CHANGED MY LIFE

I have to be honest and say that reading was not my favorite activity during my teenage years. I was more of a visual type of person. Even still, I was able to get an A from literature class in my high school because I was able to get a movie created from the assigned book of four parts with 400 pages each. My dear professor Bajagic, if you are reading these lines, please do not resent me.

I thought I would never change but seems that life changes us whether we like it or not. Since I’ve entered medical and business waters early in life and since I had to find a lot of answers to the questions I was asking myself every day, I realized that YouTube videos are not enough. Actually, I started reading more mainly because I wanted to see how other successful people felt and acted in their tough times. And they all went through the same school of life, made the same mistakes, and had the same questions wherever they lived and whichever business they were involved in.

I would like to present to you five books which I recommend to all of you who have questions about life, as well as for all of those who are just starting with your business adventures and don’t know how to tackle everyday problems.

  1. Think Big and Kick Ass in Life and Work, Donald Trump

This is actually one of the first books written by US President Donald Trump. And it’s been given to me by my teacher, Prof. Nikica Gabric. There I saw how President Trump overcame problems and doubts in his business life, how he solved many issues that his business adventures had, got himself into some endless situations, but was still able to find his way out. I’ve learned from this book that only persistent people win and that you should never ever give up!

2. Rich Dad Poor Dad, Robert Kiyosaki

The book totally different from the previous one that speaks about the author who tells the story about his two fathers: his biological father, who always told him that the most important thing is to finish school, find a good job where he will work until he retires, and his “business” father, who taught him how to make money work for you, not the other way around. This book is excellent reading material for all of those who do not wish to limit themselves to only one business activity. I’ve learned from this book that anything in life is possible if it is followed by a positive attitude.

3. Grinding It Out: The Making of McDonald’s, Ray Kroc

Yet another book that teaches us how we should never give up if we have a vision of what we want to achieve. The author, late Ray Kroc, or the “father” of the modern McDonald’s chain of restaurants, is the man who started his business career as a milk-shake salesman. He ended up being not only one of the richest people on the planet but also as a person who will be remembered as the one who changed the way fast-food restaurants operate today. What I’ve learned from this book is that the road to success is important only if you have a clear goal.

4. Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life…And Maybe the World, Admiral William H. McRaven

In the past couple of years, I am being fascinated by the US Navy SEALs. Actually, I was attracted to them by their mental toughness. This book is a simple, fast, but also a fascinating read that explains how small and simple things can change your life and how you look at the world around you. The lesson from this book that I am taking with me is that life is made by a lot of small things and that everything around us is very simple if we allow it to be.

5. What They Don’t Teach You At Harvard Business School: Notes from a Street-smart Executive, Mark H. McCormack

This is currently the best book I’ve ever read about corporate leadership. It can also be useful for all of those that are just starting with their business idea development. Even though it has been written way back before our time, it is still useful. The lesson I am taking with me from this book is that the problem is never that big as we see it.

I hope that this short story will make some of you leave your mobile phones and tablets and exchange them with a good old book. I also wish you find in these books all the answers to the questions that you may have.
