5 Email Marketing Tricks to Increase Your Sales in 2019

In 2019, I'm hoping that a lot of you will be using Email marketing more to reach your customers.

Why? Simple: we still haven't found a digital marketing practice with a higher ROI for the majority of clients we work with at Magnet Monster.

This includes social media; something email marketing is far more effective at for selling [1].

If you're a small business without a hefty PPC advertising budget, social media marketing often produces very poor returns for the time investment.

That's why at Magnet Monster, we focus predominantly on lead generation with exit-intent software - since it captures your audience's email address. In turn, this leads to much more effective remarketing.

BUT... we've also found many clients reluctant to email their lists.

Quite surprising given that they'll happily blast dozens of social media posts per week, but are overly concerned they will annoy their customers by emailing them.

It doesn't have to be this way, especially when you employ these 5 strategies to get better results from your email list.

1) Use a Compelling Headline

Without an engaging headline, nobody will read the contents of your email. It’s as simple as that.

Some tips for creating better headlines that result in open rates:

  • Use ambiguous headlines: i.e. "You won't believe this..." - it sparks curiosity and then can lead to an engaging story
  • Use a time-sensitive warning: people are always reluctant to miss out on a piece of gossip or deal
  • Use personalisation: most email software allows you to use tags to add the customer's first name into the email. We've found open rates are improved after employing this strategy from time-to-time

2) Experiment with the days you send your emails

Everybody is sending their emails first thing Monday morning, yet nobody has time to go shopping or reading about the latest protein powder on the market.

At Magnet Monster, we've often found click-through rates to be higher on weekends with clients.[2]

And while the overall open rate may drop slightly, clearly, the quality of time spent on your website as well as the likelihood of converting is better.

Why this happens, is probably due to your audience just having more time to explore what you're offering, as opposed to midweek when everybody is busy with other commitments.

3) Use "Trust Builders" to Increase Click-Through Rates

Not every email has to offer a product or service.

We like to use "trust builders" to tell a story - whether it's an experience that happened within your business your customer may find interesting or a piece of content that could improve their lives.

Employing these forms of emails from time-to-time let's your customer know that you genuinely care about them, rather than seeing them just as a person to sell to.

4) Speak in the First Person

The days of speaking to your customers as a faceless entity are dead.

Today, you need to put a face to your writing to gain their trust and respect.

That's why we nearly always recommend having somebody "front" your brand online - a face that customers recognise and can relate to.

They should sign off email broadcasts and also have an image of themselves somewhere on your website to add a more personal touch to your marketing.

This one is massively underrated. Try it and you'll be pleasantly surprised by the relationships you build with your audience.

5) Always sign off with a "P.S" or "P.P.S"

A lot of people skim emails and don't read them through. Or, they get bored with what you're saying and scroll to the end halfway through.

When this happens, it's a big opportunity to add a link to what you're trying to get traffic towards in the form of a "P.S".

An example of this may be a story of a yoga retreat you just went on (assuming the business is fitness related), before signing off on a "P.S - Check out the yoga mat that everybody was asking me about during the retreat. Click here to see what I used."

You can experiment with this but always make sure it includes a link or important message that encourages your customer to take action.

Conclusion

Email marketing doesn't have to be daunting.

The best advice we can give at Magnet Monster is to speak with authority, authenticity, and a genuine desire to connect with your prospect.

After all, they subscribed to you, now give them what they want!
