5 Key Elements to Building A Successful Remote Business

5 Key Elements to Building A Successful Remote Business

I've been asked on several occasions how to build a successful remote business.

It's a complex subject without a simple single answer...

However for me, here are 5 key takeaways for you to consider:

1) Define your mission, vision and values early-on! Convey this clearly and hire-in the best skills, optimized for attitude and client feedback.

2) Build a personal brand and connection with your teammates right from the very first encounter. Then live and breath your values and strive for better communication in every subsequent discussion in order to maximize collaboration.

3) Treat teammates as equals! Even if you have only one person that is remote, treat everyone as if they were remote!

4) Create a casual asynchronous environment to foster communication within the team, and don't just rely on conventional centralized control/meetings to drive collaboration and success.

5) Operate as small, diverse delivery teams. With diverse / cross-functional teams comes unique perspectives that help us all think differently. Remove silos and share the knowledge... And the best way we've found to do this...? Build a wholly geographically distributed, diverse and inclusive community, that believe in doing things better.
