5 New Nursing Recruitment Strategies (With Examples)

Devising effective nursing recruitment strategies is tough. Yet, there exists a silent, powerful ally—innovation. Every person immersed in daily hiring has the potential to create something new.

In these 5 New Nursing Recruitment Strategies I survey the reshaping of hiring.

1. Voice Tech

Voice technology has emerged as a novel and efficient strategy in nurse recruitment. Voice interviews, powered by AI, streamline the initial selection process by assessing candidates' communication skills and personality traits. This approach allows recruiters to focus on more critical aspects during in-person interviews, ultimately saving time and resources.

Voice search, on the other hand, enables healthcare facilities to access a wider pool of potential candidates by simplifying the application process. Nurses can inquire about job openings and submit their credentials effortlessly, enhancing accessibility and engagement. In an industry where communication and empathy are paramount, voice tech offers a promising avenue for optimizing nurse recruitment, making the process more efficient and candidate-centric.

2. Hyper-Personalization

By leveraging advanced data analytics and AI, healthcare organizations can tailor their recruitment campaigns to individual nurses, considering their skills, preferences, and career goals. This personalized approach ensures that job listings, messaging, and incentives resonate with potential candidates, increasing the likelihood of successful recruitment. CoffeeAI is an AI tool that generates personalized emails and LinkedIn messages in seconds, reducing the time and effort required to write thoughtful messages.

Moreover, hyper-personalization can extend to nurturing long-term relationships with nurses, offering ongoing support and customized professional development opportunities. This strategy fosters loyalty and engagement, reducing turnover rates in a profession where retention is crucial.

3. Next Gen AI-Powered Chatbots:

AI-driven chatbots strike up instant conversations with candidates. And they work. For example, Humber River Hospital was able to 2X nursing applications.  The bot pre-screened candidates, sent follow-ups with a 80% open rate, and even conducted preliminary discussions, offering candidates seamless, expeditious engagement.

Recent advances have made it possible for bots to respond automatically. Stanford Health Care's bot makes it easy for time-strapped nurses to complete the application process at their convenience, right from their cell phones. “We get a lot of responses and actual applies for our nurses through the chatbot,” Michelle Hart, Lead Talent Strategist,  told Phenom. It’s possible these tools could replace the early-stage sourcer function.

4. Generative AI:

Big Tech is showering AI startups with money. Amazon recently invested $4 billion (with a b!) in Anthropic, a competitor to Microsoft-backed ChatGPT. We’ve seen a few use cases for it in nursing recruitment strategies. Firstly, writing job ads becomes much easier. Nurse Recruitment Experts’ sourcing team are able to experiment with different brand voices (formal vs fun), content types (traditional vs storytelling), and relevant candidate follow ups. It also makes producing social media and website content much easier, and keeps things on brand.

5. TikTok User Generated Content:

It’s only been about for a few years. But with 800 million users worldwide, TikTok's reach is immense. What’s more, 40% of Gen Z are using TikTok as their go-to search tool. Boston Medical Center use TikTok to display the fun side of their culture. With dances, inside and outside!, staff interviews, and even a day in the life of a “healing pup”, they demonstrate the organization’s values and positive work environment.

RNs like Nurse John have gone viral with relatable and humorous content, capturing a wide audience of nurses. Think about how you can engage current staff to create content relevant to the organization. The potential to engage students and new grads in particular is massive.
