5 Producers Share Their Thoughts on the Artist x Producer Relationship in 2024
I checked in with 5 producers and asked the same question:
"Are there any strategies or tools you’d recommend to other producers looking to strengthen the economics of their business?
How do you see the artist and producer relationship evolving in 2024?"
Here are their answers:
1) Statik Selektah
"As far as resources for producers, one of my favorites is @Beatstars - they're a dope community where you can lease your beats.
I was hesitant at first but I started a few years ago and a lot of the beats I had laying around at the time that didn't have specific homes (like certain majors or artists that I catered for) got leased and ended up in some cool places.
You can lease the same beat 100 times or sometimes someone DMs you and buys it exclusively...so you never know what might happen but it's definitely cool and an extra way to get income.
I've always been a producer that does full albums with artists and I always tell up and coming producers to find an artist you can work with a bit - figure out the chemistry, mold your sounds, and learn at the same time.
That can really become a beautiful situation and there's a lot of cats coming out now that have their album produced by 1 producer and it's creating a new era of a consistent sound.
I'll always be a producer that works with one artist on a project if I can".

"Strategy in this digital age is probably the most important tool at everyone's disposal. For me, my strategy was to really just pump out content consistently. I figured it was of quality but I let social media decide.
When it comes to becoming a brand, a level of authenticity is important in today's age.
People want to feel like you are reachable and relatable, not untouchable like back in the day.
The artist and producer relationship is one of the most imperative relationships in the music industry. For me, as a producer/artist, I strive to create a welcoming environment in sessions with my artists.
I believe a lot of my success and ability to have collaborated with legends in this industry can be attributed to that welcoming environment."
3) Eli Brown
I believe in 2024 more producers will sign more artists. Artists with main producers similiar to how Ice Spice works with Riot pretty much exclusively will be the ones that really thrive.

In terms of tools, there aren't many I can think of other than producers should be connected with distro companies and try to offer up & coming artists they are working with distro deals for the songs they work on!".
4) @Esquire
"Build your own website! Publish your main content on your website and then distribute to other platforms. Make sure you refer people back to your website and provide some content exclusively on your website.
Remember, when you build your own (producername) website, you build an asset that you outright and legally own. In time your website will start to bring in traffic and as it grows it will become more valuable to you as an artist and entrepreneur".
5) B Korn
"I believe that in this day and age, as cliche as it sounds, producers need to utilize every social media outlet that there is.
We need to constantly keep up with the changing climate within social media and use them to our advantage.
Just because a producer is in their 30s now doesn't mean that they should "swear off" Tiktok. For example, I created my TikTok last year. Within 3 months, I grew my account to over 11k followers by posting content that I would have found valuable when I first started producing.
I approach my TikTok content as an educational aspect rather than a "viral" aspect. I use it not only to grow myself, but to educate others.
As far as the artist & producer relationship in 2024, I see it continuing to evolve as a digital relationship. Producers are connecting with artists from all over the world via social media without ever meeting them. This has been a steady evolution since the rise of Instagram. I believe relationships in music will continue to evolve this way".
