5 Tips to Lose Weight When You Are Always in the Kitchen
Working in a kitchen as a chef is challenging especially if you are trying to maintain your weight and fitness goals. There's always food all over and your job basically is to taste EVERYTHING. It's typical for the first hour of work to be filled with just eating and the rest of the day usually a process of testing to make sure the consistency is right. Even our lunch breaks are filled with temptations from the food that comes back to the kitchen usually being the easiest thing to eat. So what do you do?!
I've created a super simple list to show you the sneaky tricks I've used to stay fit even if the kitchen is on fire!!
These simple 5 tips to help keep your diet and nutrition on point:
- Eat before you go into work. If it is breakfast, lunch, or dinner walking into a kitchen hungry is a recipe for disaster. When you eat before going into work you will be less tempted to snack your way through your checklists.
- Drink plenty of water. Working in a hot environment will dehydrate you. this will signal hunger and tempt you to eat whatever is available. Stay away from the soda machine. Useless empty calories and quick energy burst they provide simply quickly turns into stored fat.
- Step away from the french fries! Fried foods are probably our most over prepped and easy to snack on food. Make yourself do 3 push-ups for every sampled fry you eat.
- Sit down and eat a comfortable pace. We seldom have time for a full meal. Often we eat food that was made wrong, server errors, or just looked good coming out of the kitchen. Seldom is the food enjoyed, the demands on our time come first. Typically causing us to rationalize that wasn't our meal and eating a gain later.
- Share your food. Restaurant portions are designed for perceived value. Eating high calorie meals everyday will quickly add to your waist line. Splitting your meal cuts the calories in half.
