5 UNcommon Interview Tips to Help You Stand Out

Getting excited for interviews in 2025 may have you reflecting on what to do different so you can stand out.

Most people stick to the basics when preparing for an interview.  But if you want to truly stand out, you must go deeper.

1️⃣ Dig Deeper in Your Research  -Don’t just browse the company’s website. Set Google alerts for updates, follow their blogs, and review earnings reports.

2️⃣ Pick the Time Strategically  -Timing matters more than you think.

-Avoid Mondays and Fridays when energy is lower.

-Mid-mornings on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday are ideal for peak focus.

3️⃣ Use Storytelling  -Your experience isn’t just a resume—make it a story and communicate your impact that is relatable.

-Talk about why you do what you do and what drives you.

-Stories stick with interviewers more than lists ever will.

-Use the STAR METHOD to tell a succinct, strategic story.

4️⃣ Make Your Thinking Visible

-When asked problem-solving questions, think out loud.

-Walk the interviewer through your approach to challenges.

-This helps them understand how you think and solve problems.

5️⃣ End with a Strong Question

-Close with confidence by asking something bold, such as:  "What other questions can I answer that confirm I’m a good fit for this role?"  This gives you a chance to address concerns head-on.

-Great interviews aren’t just about your qualifications.  They’re about how you connect, communicate, and demonstrate your value.
