6 Major Signs That You Need A Brand Refresh

Brand refresh involves revamping your brand by implementing small improvements while staying true to its essence.

It comes with many benefits:

  • improving retention and building loyalty
  • being able to justify raised prices
  • attracting funding and top talent
  • increasing sales and revenue
  • creating “buzz” on social media

But how do you know that it’s time?

Look out for 6 signs!

1. You’re inconsistent

Consistency is the key to successful branding. If your visual language isn’t cohesive across different touchpoints like your website, social media, and print assets, a brand refresh can help you find focus and clarity.

2. You look & feel dated

If your brand has been around for a while now, you need to ensure it stays relevant in consumers’ eyes. And don’t get me wrong, retro is cool but old and boring is not. Adapt to today’s business environment by refreshing your look.

3. Your audience has evolved

Markets shift and people change. Maybe your audience grew up and values different things, or you’ve expanded into new territories. Whichever the case may be, a refresh will help your brand resonate with the right people.

4. You’ve changed

Brands change too! You may have shifted your focus, added new offerings to the mix, or niched down. To ensure your customers know what you’re about now, reflect any internal changes externally through a quick makeover.

5. You’re growing

If you expect to see growth in the future due to new products & services, increased marketing efforts, or partnerships, it’s a good idea to refresh your brand. What worked when you were a start-up might not work now that you’re a thriving small business.

6. Your competitors are ahead

The ripple effect in business is real. If your top competitor went through a brand refresh or a full rebrand recently, or your visual identity just isn’t as strong and memorable as theirs, it’s a good idea to reassess your branding and positioning.

In Conclusion

Brand refresh is kind of like changing your hairstyle.

It’s a small, but noticeable enhancement that feels natural and effortless. Although it can change how you look, it can’t change who you are.

On the other hand, rebranding is like being on one of those extreme makeover shows. It’s a much more demanding and complex process.

Rebranding requires lots of planning and research. It’s definitely not something that every brand has to do. However, an occasional brand refresh is something I recommend to any business out there.

It will help you stay relevant in the ever-evolving market, differentiate from your competitors, increase brand awareness, and re-energize your brand!
