6 Signs Your Faucets Are Not Working Efficiently

Hi all. Found an excellent article that I am sure many will relate to. Hope you get something useful out of this...

For how long do you plan to ignore your faucet problems? It is important to pay attention to the signs of faucet failure in order to keep your plumbing system efficient. For keeping your faucets in their best working condition, it is necessary you closely examine your faucets on a timely basis. Examining can help you in identifying potential faucet problems. It can also help in determining whether it’s time to repair or replace them. Some signs that signal faucet inefficiency are:

Leaks and Constant Dripping

Have you been noticing that the bottom of your faucet remains wet most of the time? Are you tired of the dripping sound your leaking faucet makes? This is a sign that you either have high water pressure in your pipes or malfunctioning valves. In some cases, a broken or faulty washer inside the faucet can also be the reason.

Unsteady Water Stream

Often, the faucet fails to produce a continuous stream with adequate water due to a clogged aerator. An aerator is a screw-on screen that covers the mouth of the faucet. Debris and minerals in water can eventually get deposited and clog the aerator which further obstructs the water flow.

Rusting Faucet

If you notice that the surfaces of your faucets are rusting or have mineral deposits on them, it’s time to repair or replace them. This can occur if you have hard water supply in your house. The mineral deposits can be easily removed using a solution of water, baking soda, and white vinegar. But if your faucet has been rusted, it is best to replace them.

Faucets can also get rusted internally for the same reason. The major signs of internal rusting of faucets include rusty colored water or smelly water flowing from the faucet.

Strange Sounds from the Faucet

You may often experience strange, squeaky, or clanking sounds from the faucets. These sounds are either because of the rubber washer or defects in the faucet itself. The rubber washer can get hardened over the years and produce sounds when water passes through them. It is best to unscrew the faucets and examine them to find the actual cause.

Loose Connection

Faucets can become loose over the years as their threads wear off. Broken or cracked faucets also result in loose connections. Loose faucets can wobble and shake or even move out of the position and prevent you from using them efficiently.

Inefficient Faucet Handle

A broken or a loose faucet handle, or the one that makes a squeaky sound can bother you. These faults indicate that the faucet stem has been worn down. To comfortably start using the faucets again, it is important to call professional plumbers and get the problem fixed.
