6 Ways to Instantly Improve Your Life

6 Ways to Instantly Improve Your Life

Recognise importance: Most people don’t realise the importance of the things they have, instead they spend their time being seduced by their smartphones, ignoring or not seeing what is right in front of them. You may miss your child growing up, your relationship deteriorating or your life spiralling out of control due to the neglect of your reality in favour of focusing on the disingenuous nature of the virtual world. Put the phone down before it’s too late. Take time to disconnect and smell the roses. Do you really care what that school acquaintance who you had a mild distaste for is doing on holiday or eating for dinner? Recognise the things in your life that matter and develop a focus on the things that add value to you by dispensing with the things that don’t.

Be present: People miss the important things while searching for the next important thing. Instead of appreciating the here and now we focus on what is to come and dismiss the importance of what we are experiencing today. Almost always people are pessimistic about today, optimistic about tomorrow and gloriously reminisce about the past. This is a type of cognitive dissonance which betrays you from experiencing what is happening in your life right now. Understand the value of what is happening each day or you will miss it and recall it with far more fondness than you allowed yourself to experience at the time.

Never stop learning: Whether that is reading a book, listening to a podcast or completing a MOOC online, you need to continue to take responsibility for your own learning and actively pursue means to improve. Read for 1 hour every single day. By reading one hour a day, regardless of your perceived level of knowledge, you can become a world leading expert in any subject in 7 years. If you begin now, you could become a world leading expert in your chosen field in less than 10% of your lifetime. It obviously requires commitment and consistency but it’s incredibly easy to sit and read if you are literate. 42% of college graduates never read another book after college so thinks how far ahead that could get you. Learning is the bedrock on which the foundations of our life are built. Learning new things lets you expand your cumulative well of knowledge which informs every other area of your life. Learn more and allow cross pollination of your ideas to occur serendipitously.

Be free: Constraints inhibits pleasure, be free and allow yourself to enjoy the things you love without inhibitions. We focus too much on what other people expect of us instead of doing the things that make us happy with the people we love. Divorce yourself from a requirement to fuel other people's needs and wants and learn to love yourself. If you don’t love yourself nobody will ever be able to care about you fully, or to the extent you need. Detachment from a feeling of necessity to conform to other people expectations enables you the freedom for exploration. Don’t do things because they are what other people prescribe to you, do them because you care. Pursue your passions and persevere with the things that make you smile. The quickest route to unhappiness is reflecting on a past driven by other people opinions and beliefs, you will recognise the waste. Be free to explore your own interests and pursue them. If that means having to cut people loose who are holding you back so be it. You will find others who are more aligned to your mission when you start doing the things that make you happy.

Care: Be empathetic, understand the plight of others and appreciate what you have when you have it. By seeing and understanding that others are less fortunate than you, you can be thankful for the opportunities and life you have been afforded. Cognisance of your own circumstances brings a sense of humility. It allows you to appreciate you prosperity, empathise the human condition, and the most selfless thing you can do is significantly improve the lives of others. When you are in a more favourable position you need to offer your hand to help others off the ground. Doing so will bring you the most overwhelming sense of joy and happiness.for and appreciate ways in which you can help. The most important things in life are an understanding

Share: If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. At the heart of human desire is the most profound sense of community. To improve on the most important things in life you need to let people in, you need to share and spread the knowledge you have gained. If you have skills share them freely, teach people and help others grown. You might not profit immediately but you will know you are significantly contributing to the advancement of society. Sharing is at the heart of what it means to be human. If we hadn’t share our knowledge for making fire, homes or electricity where would we be? Embrace your responsibility to mankind and become the zeitgeist of your time.
