7 Life-Shattering Habits to Avoid in 2023
Are you done with the new year goals?
I am sure you have already started working on them. But after a month, you might realize you’re doing the same things you did last year. Nothing changed.
Every year we make new year goals but need to stay on track. This year, try something different.
Instead of working on new year goals, focus on eliminating some things that will help you become a better person.
Habits create your future. To succeed faster, remove these habits from your life:
1. Say no to victimization
In Asian countries, we follow a certain path to label ourselves as successful. Study. Get a job. Get married. Make kids. And die.
But if you do anything else, you will become a victim of your family, friends, and especially relatives.
So, in 2023 make it a habit to say NO to everything that doesn’t give you chills in the body.
Do what excites you. Do what you feel like doing. Study what you want to study and even quit a job to start a business.
All in all, improve your internal communication. The story you tell yourself matters a lot. Become the hero of your story. Indeed, there will be obstacles along the way, but make it a habit to develop a strong mindset.
Use affirmations. Watch videos. Read books and stay close to optimistic people or people who discuss ideas and support your dreams.
2. Stop fearing the technology
From the path month or so, I’ve seen seeing posts that claim ChatGPT will replace human beings.
ChatGPT will surely take the jobs of ordinary people. But the smart ones will be able to stay ahead of technology.
Instead of fearing technology, use technology to make your work easy.
For instance, as a writer, I have used ChatGPT to generate outlines of blogs and suggest blog topics. But in the end, what makes a human superior to ChatGPT is our unique stories, emotions, and personality, which cannot be replaced.
3. Share your feelings
Life is short. People die before we even realize it.
Make it a habit to share your true feelings. If you think an idea sucks, say it. If the idea is revolutionary, appraise it. But don’t keep things in your heart.

If you found the one you love, feel free to express gratitude and convert the message. Don’t wait for the perfect moment.
4. Abandon goals. Build systems
A goal is a false hope. A goal is merely a direction, but to succeed in life, you need systems.
Let’s take an example. Want to write a book? That’s a goal. Writing two pages a day is a system. Getting fame on social media is a goal; posting daily for a year is a system.
5. Not appreciating what you already have
As humans, we are hard-wired to focus on the negative.
In 2023, make it a habit to appreciate even the smallest blessings in your life. Don’t talk about your misfortunes unless you’re analyzing what went wrong.
Let 2023 be a year of thankfulness. Make a list of things money cannot buy. Say a gratitude prayer for every single item on the list.
6. Stop relying on one stream of income
A 9–5 job is an excellent way to pay bills. But to survive in the new era, you need side hustles. Choose a side hustle from the following list after you get home or on the weekends.
Every human is blessed with endless potential. Now is the time to use more than you give at your 9–5 job for someone else.
7. Bury the fixed mindset
When Netflix pitched to Blockbuster, the old-age uncles laughed at the pitch. Now, could you look who survived?
There are seasons for everything; if you don’t evolve, you will die. Don’t die with the music still in your heart.
Learn the skills. Craft your skill every single day. Observe people around you, read books and listen to podcasts.
Take whatever you can from those people and keep what works for you.
Closing note
I have good hopes for 2023. One last habit I want you to build is execution.
Stop waiting for things to happen and make them happen. Go for something, even if you don’t know where to start. The best thing about humans is their ability to figure things out. Use it well!
