7 steps to grow your podcast audience worldwide

If you're just starting your podcasting adventure or if you want to increase the visibility of a podcast you already started a while ago, then you certainly need to read this article.

I started mine recently, yet the exposure I get is global. In this article, before anything else, I will tell you my 2 greatest secrets about how I managed to get here:

I. Community building - the best and most rewarding thing you can do

The community I managed to create around me in the last 18 months is the direct result of consistent work put into building genuine relationships with people from all over the world. This can only be obtained by honestly interacting with people and by providing them with help whenever you are able to. But not because you feel compelled to return a favor. Rather because you FEEL like doing it.

I chose to inquire. A lot ! And so I started a written interview series, called #ValuableDiversity. This series allowed me to ask people for interaction. And my way of building up the questions was genuine: I chose to have an off-line call with all my prospective guests, in order to get to know each other better. I will confess that not all the calls turned into interviews, due to the lack of chemistry. Nonetheless, the ones that did turn into interviews were for the right reasons. And the results were amazing. Because the energy exchange could be felt by the audience. And I chose my guests in such a manner that the interview sent that positive vibe.

Long story short, this is how I got to meet amazing people from all corners of the world and different areas of expertise. From life coaches to translators, sales trainers, established businesses or start-up CEOs, they all made my guests’ list, if we managed to have a visibly honest interaction.

This is what a diverse and inclusive community is all about, right?

Once you have this community built, everything comes easier. And, for me, the next natural step was to start my podcast.

When I launched it, the people who already knew me due to off-line interactions or my social media presence were keen to learn about this new thing I was bringing. And so, my podcast started to grow.

II. Workapp - get advertised for FREE !

If you never heard of this platform before, please check my previous article, called “10 reasons why you should use WorkApp” and then come back to this one.

On the other hand, if you read that article, you already know its benefits and the reasons behind me offering so much support to it.

That being said, my second greatest secret in growing my podcast is precisely this platform. Because I get equal rights to be featured in the “What's fresh section” based on my daily activity there (boost my listings and/ or create new ones + offering support to other business owners).

How to use WorkApp's podcast feature under community section

Without further ado, here are 7 steps to grow your podcast audience worldwide, by using WorkApp's newest feature under the community section - “Podcast”. Before anything else, however, you need to take the plunge and create a free account that will allow you to post additional services you may have to offer besides podcasting. Once you've done that, follow the steps below:

1. Press the “plus” icon in the main screen

2. Select “Community” feature from the new window that pops up (bottom left corner in the screen-shot below)

3. Enter basic details, such as:

a) Organization or individual (depending on the type of legal entity you are, if applicable; usually, podcasters will select “individual)

b) Name (of your podcast)

c) Add your show's description. Here make sure to include all your show's links to the platforms where your show can be found. Mine is available on 16 platforms and I have them all enlisted in this section (see 2nd & 3rd screen-shots below)

d) Add community type (Podcast) and hit “Continue”

4. Add contact details (which will help you to be easily found by your location and the inquiries will happen smoothly). Click “Continue”

5. Select the desired privacy settings and visibility. Click “Continue”

6. Add images and/ or a 5-minute video to introduce your show and click “Continue”. If you make separate listings for each episode (recommended for an even higher reach) you can add your social media snippet there + pictures of your guest. Below is a screen-shot of my latest published episode.

7. Save and finish.

And this is how your listing will look like (displays 1 picture and 1 video)

Congratulations, your podcast is now visible worldwide! (if you selected this option)

Conclusions

What you need to keep in mind, regardless of the amount and value of the tools you have at hand, is that being yourself is the best way to build a loyal audience and to have the word of mouth spreading in no time!

Feel free to leave your podcast’s listing links below. As a result, myself and all the podcasters who are already taking advantage of WorkApp will be able to:

  • support your adventure (by giving hearts to your listing) and
  • help you get a 5 stars rating (by making inquiries).

Make sure you pay it forward to other newbies in the field and return the favor to the ones who have helped you.

In the end, the community is the one to help us all GROW and collaboration within the community is what will help us THRIVE!

Remember to smile at life and life will smile right back at you! 🙃
