7 Ways to Recharge Your Mind, Body & Spirit During the COVID-19 Pandemic

7 Ways to Recharge Your Mind, Body & Spirit During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Spring is officially here! Everywhere I've traveled throughout my house the last couple of weeks has shown no new signs of new life except -- kids are out of school, people are getting ready for the Summer (I think) and the NBA is not sure when to restart the season. It's truly a perfect time to shed away the unwanted and unneeded and emerge from the doldrums of the first half of 2020. I've got some ideas for you on stripping away those old layers to emerge refreshed, renewed and in a better place emotionally.

Try Something New!

It's pretty normal to feel like you need a change right now. You've been freezing to death for the last three, four, or if you're far north, even six months and now you are stuck at home even longer due to Covid-19. That urgency to get out and do something different and exciting seems to be a universal experience. Even house pets and wildlife seem to feel that energy in the air -- the need to break free from the confines of winter.

Put this energy to good use and try something completely new and exciting. I'm not suggesting you jump out of a plane (which is not allowed right now anyways) or spend your 401K on a timeshare in Maui, but do something to recharge your batteries and renew your enthusiasm for life! You need it! Your Family needs it!

Here are a few ideas that will hopefully inspire you to get going and enrich your day-to-day life:

  1. Change up your look. If you have had the same haircut for a while, consider a new style. Now is the time to feed your desire for something new and different. If you don't like it, no one will see you anyways so relax already...
  2. Get out of Your House at least Once A Day & Explore New Places. Chances are there are dozens of places you've never been, right there in your own neighborhood. Make an effort to get out and explore some of these different venues.
  3. Savour the tiny moments. You will have many small moments to savour if you look for them. The smell of coffee, the hot water of a morning shower, the family lunch or dinner and so on. When you intentionally take in these moments, rather then let them fly by in a typical situation, you are giving your brain a chance to process the pleasure, which boosts your serotonin – the feel good neurotransmitter that helps elevate your mood and make you feel calm and satisfied. You'll be amazed by how much stronger you feel on the other side of it!
  4. Eat seasonally. Strange as it may sound, eating with the seasons is actually recommended to maintain optimal health. There are a ton of farmers markets and fruit stands that now deliver allowing you to incorporate lots of fresh, seasonal produce into your diet and you'll feel more energetic and revitalized!
  5. Get plenty of sleep. Your body still wants and needs at least seven to nine hours of sleep a night to allow you to feel and function at your optimal levels.
  6. Hold a Family Meeting Every Day. Assess how everyone is doing. If anyone is dealing with a tough issue, a meeting can be a helpful way for everyone to check-in and talk about how everyone is doing. It also gives you the ability to share information with the whole family at one time, so no one is left out from knowing and understanding what’s going on etc.. We host ours every day at 11:00am.
  7. Host a Virtual Gratitude Lunch at work. It’s a meal you share with your coworkers, where you express gratitude. Being grateful isn’t limited to the holidays. Sure, it’s great to go around the table during the holidays to give thanks, but really, we should be giving thanks daily to the folks we see five days a week!

What about you? Have you done anything recently to recharge your emotional battery?
