Picture this...you've worked your tail off to get investors interested in attending a webinar for one of your new deals. You've done your part to fill up the Zoom room, and you even have a super-jazzy slide deck. 🤩
The webinar starts and there's a technology fumble, a lot of dead silence in the beginning, and the presenter is low energy and monotone. Investors are turning off their cameras and disengaging - and you're worried you're losing them.
Worst case scenario, right?! 😩
Don't worry, friend - today we're going to get to work and fix it, so you NAIL your next pitch!
These nuggets I'm sharing today are extra ✨ golden!
I've been insanely busy the past few months getting a $25M raise across the finish line. Due to the unique nature of the investment, I've delivered 70+ investor pitches/webinars.
And I'm about to give you the goods...my top strategies for a high-converting live deal webinar!
🔹 8 PRO STRATEGIES TO NAIL YOUR NEXT PITCH & CLOSE MORE CAPITAL! 🔹
- 1 - Do it yourself. If you're partnering with an operator and you're less than impressed with their delivery of the pitch, do your own webinar! Your investors know and trust you anyway - and you'll be able to create a more personalized approach with just your investor community.
- 2 - Fill the silence. Nothing is worse than investors logging into Zoom and it's dead quiet! Be the host and "work the room" - greet people as they come in. Let them know they have time to grab their favorite beverage. Ask them to share verbally or type in the chat where they're from and what they're drinking. Your goal is to create a lighthearted environment. (I'm also not opposed to upbeat music playing as they log in!)
- 3 - Get them to show you their face. When their camera is on, they're more engaged. When people are logging in, ask them to turn on their cameras. "Hey - we're so glad you're here - do us a favor, if you're not indisposed, turn on your camera and show us your face -we'd love to see you!" And then acknowledge them and engage with them as they each turn on their camera.
- 4 - Be upbeat & lighthearted. Investors are tired of sterile webinars. Tell investors you plan on having some fun tonight. Crack some jokes - let your humorous side show through. The more fun you have, the more capital you'll raise. Why? Because people are drawn to your energy and the environment you're creating.
- 5 - Tell stories. They can read the slides themselves. The way you make the slide come alive is by telling stories about the process of acquiring and underwriting the deal. Help them buy-in to the story of the opportunity and why you care about it so much. Facts tell, stories sell.
- 6 - Display unwavering conviction. Investors are buying into YOU - they want to see that you are "all in" on this deal. Get rid of the nervous energy by knowing your slide deck inside and out - and practicing the stories and talk tracks for each part of the presentation.
- 7 - Talk about risk. This should be obvious, but it needs to be said! Investors will trust you more when you're upfront about the various investment risks. If you glaze over this, you'll lose their trust and they'll assume you haven't thoroughly vetted it. Be upfront - give them the down-and-dirty and worst-case scenarios, review your risk mitigation plan, and let them make their decision!
- 8 - Let go of the outcome. Detached energy is the goal - you're cool as a cucumber. You don't need every investor to say yes and you aren't desperate for the money. Believe the right investors will say yes, and the investors who aren't supposed to be in the deal will say no. Let the cards fall where they may. I cannot emphasize this enough! When you get desperate and nervous, everyone feels it (despite your best effort to hide it). And desperate energy repels capital. Repeat after me - "I'm a 4th quarter champion - it doesn't matter what the scoreboard looks like, I always find a way to win!" 🏆 And then with relentless commitment, carry that deal across the finish line! 💪
I'm curious, which one of these strategies was your favorite? Drop it in the comments - I'd love to hear from you!
Cheers to nailing your next investor webinar - I hope you know that I'm rooting for you! 🥂
