8 Tips for Mobile App Development to Help You Develop a Successful Product

Mobile app development is an incredibly appealing area for work and investment. However, not everyone can succeed in creating a successful product; after all, there are countless pitfalls along the way. As such, the rate for truly successful apps is low.

But luck or pure chance rarely has much to do with positive results. The formula for success is the hard work done by developers, designers, and marketers — the three essential categories of people who create a mobile app.

Referring to my own long-term development experience, I have written this short guide to share several tips on creating a top-quality product.

Define Your Goal

First, you should always start by considering what you are creating your app for. Are you doing it for self-education or curiosity? Or perhaps the prospect of growing your reputation and earning money drives you? Defining this can help steer your new app in the right direction.

Determine your Promotion Strategy

It’s hard, if not almost impossible, to achieve numerous downloads without good distribution and a clear plan that’s aimed at increasing your app’s recognition among its target audience.

If you lack experience or don’t have a successful marketing team, it’s not worth taking on ideas where the rate of success is 95%, dependent on promotion – but not on the product itself or the technology.

Single-Player Mode

Single-player is a mode where only one user or participant is necessary. It’s generally much more pragmatic to develop single-player mode apps for solvent Western users than to try and develop multi-user products.

The evolution of the business model for single-player mode apps typically looks as follows:

  • Paid app
  • Freemium
  • Freemium with a regular subscription option

Maintain Interest

You should always choose ideas you’ll be genuinely interested in working on. There’s no need to describe the reason for this; it’s pretty obvious to everyone — if you are interested in your work, you will have a much stronger desire to develop and improve your product. However, when your interest dissipates, the outcome is also quite clear.

Prioritize

When developing a product, it’s always a good idea to remember that your personality is of no interest to your stakeholders and users. Users will only appreciate the product itself and the value it brings to their lives. As such, it’s always crucial to keep your focus on the customers and the market perspectives rather than yourself.

Pitfalls are not Always Overt

Marketplace app development is the easiest part – but the app’s success will depend on your ability to build two separate business models:

  1. For product sellers
  2. For product buyers

Quality over Quantity

Before you develop your new product, think of your potential monetization methods. You can profit from a collaboration with other businesses (B2B) or make money through sales to end users (B2C).

Depending on your model, though, it’s often easier to make money in the first segment since the average payment from each customer will be higher – but you may have fewer low-paying customers than with a B2C model.
