90-60-90? BETTER 75-15-10.

90-60-90? BETTER 75-15-10.

No, I am not referring to the classic beauty standard. But it is much more important than that. Stay with me for couple of minutes, and then feel free to jump to other platform for such content. I promise it will be worth your time.

Let´s begin.

75-15-10 is a simple but effective system to organize your finances with three remarkable goals: live your life now, build assets for your future and accumulate wealth to protect your present wellbeing. It works with any currency, but since I am a financial advisor specialized in expats living in the Czech Republic, I will use 100 CZK as an example. According to this system, you must distribute every 100 CZK that goes into your bank account the following way:

  • 75 CZK maximum to spend.
  • 15 CZK minimum to invest.
  • 10 CZK minimum to save (until you have 3 to 6 months of expenses saved up).

Original composition inspired by Minority Mindset

The key here is to pay yourself first by creating two standing orders in your bank account: as soon as you receive money, 10% will be sent automatically into your savings account and 15% into your investment(s) account(s), leaving you with the remaining 75% to spend as you wish. Do you want to buy the newest iPhone? Show your bitten apple with pride. Are you looking forward to trying the newest restaurant in town? Dobrou chuť. Are those gorgeous boots on sale? These boots are made for walking.

BUT.

Remember that with that 75% of your income you also must pay even more important things such as rent, food and transportation; so use it wisely and do not touch the rest: the 15% sent for investment is working hard on your behalf for your future house, pension, children, etc and the 10% is building your emergency net; which will save you from unforeseen events like underpaid utilities, a family emergency or if you get fired from your job.

But what should I do if I already have a decent safety net (3 to 6 months’ worth of expenses)? Then stay tuned for my upcoming article about the 75-15-10 expansion or write me a message for a private consultation.

See you next Monday. And Merry Christmas.
