#93 Embrace the Journey: Why You Shouldn't Rush Your Path to Coaching Success
The Allure of Instant Success
As coaches, we all share a common desire - the burning ambition to achieve success quickly. We can almost taste the impact we want to create, the clients we want to serve, and the financial freedom we dream of. The temptation to rush our journey and skip ahead to the end goal can be pretty consuming.
This impatience to 'get there faster' on the path to coaching success is something I've personally struggled with. I wanted it all and I wanted it now! And I've seen many coaches I work with challenged by this urge too.
The Value of Gradual Growth
What we all need to realise and appreciate is that the coaching journey itself is often the 'secret sauce' to long-term success. Just as someone thrust into the CEO role of a Fortune 500 company without any experience would most likely feel overwhelmed and ill-equipped for the job, rushing our coaching journey can leave us unprepared for the responsibilities and challenges that come with true mastery.
Each step along the way - from junior positions to gradual career advancement - equips us with invaluable skills and wisdom that we can't skip over or fast forward. Whether it's learning touch typing, mastering time management, or anticipating the needs of our clients, these foundational lessons are essential for our future growth.
The Importance of Mastering the Basics
I've observed many coaches try to skip crucial steps in their journey, such as:
These premature leaps can undermine the solid foundations needed for long-term success. I really want to stress that, wherever you are on your journey, "You are exactly where you need to be right now."
Trusting the Timing of Your Journey
I wanted to launch a high-level mastermind programme for experienced coaches but, for years, I faced closed doors. Then, I realised that this wasn't actually the constant rejection it felt like at the time, but a sign that the timing was not yet right. What I actually needed to do was grow my own skills, deepen my experience, and build the right relationships before my clients were truly ready for that next level of support.
Pushing against these 'closed doors' would have been counterproductive on the path to coaching success. Instead, I leant into the process and trusted the timing of my journey, using that time to develop resilience and authenticity. And, guess what, I found that the door opened on its own when the conditions were ripe.
Blooming in Your Own Season

I encourage you to embrace the unique rhythm of your own journey, rather than comparing themselves to others who may appear to be further ahead. Don't compare your chapter 2 to another coach's chapter 20. I can't stress enough the importance of documenting, reflecting on, and appreciating each stage of the process. It's so much more constructive than fixating on the 'highlight reel' of someone else's success.
Just as a flower needs the right conditions to bloom, our coaching businesses need the proper nurturing and timing to thrive. Forcing growth before the right season can stunt our development and our potential.
Applying the Lesson to Your Business
Consider areas of your business where you may be pushing against closed doors. It might be a group programme, an online course, or a high-ticket offer. Instead of forcing these initiatives, I encourage you to trust that they will open at the perfect moment, as you prepare and grow into the person who will be ready to seize those opportunities.
By embracing the journey and trusting the timing of your growth, you can transform frustration into a realisation that "all along, the entire time was part of the masterpiece of your future successful business."
In conclusion, the key message is to resist the temptation to rush your coaching journey and, instead, trust the timing of your growth as you travel the path to coaching success.
Each step, however messy and challenging they might be, is essential for your long-term success. Embrace the process, document your progress, and watch as your coaching business blossoms in its own divine timing.

I rely on my experience in IT although I was a good lead, PM, manager, I find that it is very difficult for me to introduce myself to what I do that is newer and more difficult... because I left my experience of 28 years from IT...
