Accessible Presentation Software

I asked a question to the collective wisdom of my LinkedIn connections recently, and it sparked a great conversation and research into accessible presentation software. Here's what I found comparing accessibility features of some of the major presentation software platforms.

You can read my full writeup on my blog, but here are the highlights:

The most shared tool was AhaSlides - Audience Engagement Platform , but it seems to be missing some critical accessibility features. Compounding on that, there isn’t anything about accessibility I can find in their online knowledge base or community platform! Uh oh...

Slido is a touch better, with an available VPAT... that outlines some of the accessibility pitfalls. Ouch.

Poll Everywhere looks incredible! Built-in accessibility and a thorough VPAT... but it wasn't exactly the kind of tool I was looking for. (I want to create content slides and interactions, all in the same software.)

So the winner overall for accessibility was... the software I was already using, Mentimeter ! I'm sad to see some of my favorite audience interactions taken away, but overall I can't find a more accessible platform to switch to that covers my current needs.

Also... this blog post may be the start of a new series on making presentations accessible! Now that we've covered some of the interactive options out there, I'd like to share some of the other ways I've learned to make in-person and virtual presentations more accessible. Stay tuned for more!

Other Blog Posts

I promised a while back I would be doing "awareness day" posts for my disabilities and conditions this year. While I still don't like making a big fanfare about myself, I did write a post to mark World Bipolar Day on March 30.

The blog post series on Writing for Accessibility will wrap up this month, as soon as I get around to finishing my article on Writing Captions, Transcripts, and Audio Descriptions. (I may have been briefly distracted by that whole presentation software thing...)

Oh! Did you know I'm on Fiverr and UpWork? There was a blog post about that too. I've got a bit of availability if you need some accessibility assistance!

April Events

Are you registered for the ROCTalent Summit next week? It's going to be a blast! I carefully chose the events I would be able to travel to this year, and this one has the bonus of being close enough to my family for a visit. (I may even be dragging a special guest along for the ride!) Did I mention, a new keynote by ✨Kassy LaBorie ? Will I see you there?

I also have a few virtual events coming up at the end of the month: a couple ATD Chapters (looking at you ATDChi - Association for Talent Development, Chicagoland Chapter and ATD Kansas City !) and maybe a webinar or podcast appearance to round out the month. More details to be shared as they come out!

Global Accessibility Awareness Day is Coming!

While I'm still finalizing the details on my own FREE webinar for Global Accessibility Awareness Day, the great thing is, it's a celebration that lasts all day! My webinar will just be one event of many celebrating accessibility awareness. Do you still need a speaker for your event?
