ACI & Humanitarian Cargo

The need for humanitarian aid is growing as the world becomes more unstable and populations swell.

Natural disasters, civil unrest, war - humanitarian aid is needed for a variety of reasons.

But who is providing this cargo and how?

What is Humanitarian Aid?

Humanitarian aid is a type of cargo that includes materials and items sent to help people in disaster areas or other crisis situations.

Non-profit organizations, such as UNICEF and Doctors Without Borders, are the main source of humanitarian aid. They partner with logistic companies to get materials to disaster sites, get medical staff and emergency staff in to help, and even move refugees from dangerous areas.

Humanitarian logistics is a complicated process, as there are many agencies involved in getting access to those who need it most in remote places - that sometimes have very little infrastructure in place.

In a disaster situation, it’s crucial that aid reaches those who require it quickly and efficiently.

It can be difficult for one agency or organization to handle all aspects of the logistics process by itself. They often rely on a logistics partner, like ACI logistics, who can provide emergency logistics in difficult locations around the world and is knowledgeable in peacekeeping procedures across borders, gaining the correct permissions and more.

What is Humanitarian Cargo?

Humanitarian cargo can range from food packages to medical supplies or even tents for temporary housing.

It’s not enough just to make sure these items arrive safely – you also have to make sure they reach those who need them efficiently as well.

The logistics partner should be able to offer support for local partners on the ground, so they can distribute the goods quickly and efficiently without wasting any time or money along the way.

Logistics partners are crucial when it comes to moving humanitarian cargo around the world quickly and easily – when disaster strikes

At ACI we have regularly supported organizations in getting emergency aid, cargo and more to various hostile places around the world.

It is imperative in emergency situations that the logistics partner knows how to adapt and overcome the unique challenges each emergency situation comes with.

We can proudly say, over the decades of doing this type of work, we have built a team that can move items around the world quickly, safely and with permissions in place - regardless of the pickup and drop off locations.

How is Humanitarian Cargo Moved?

Humanitarian cargo is frequently delivered to difficult locations with little infrastructure.

Moving these items via marine and ocean freight poses many challenges.

It takes time for containers to travel by sea from one location to another, and this is why some disaster relief agencies prefer sending their cargo by land or air freight instead.

As said above, sometimes there may be no infrastructure in place at the destination location for receiving the shipment - so it must be unloaded manually which can result in delays as well as additional costs associated with loading and unloading activities at both ends of each leg of the journey.

Also, there may be no suitable means of transportation available at either end of each leg of the journey for moving large volumes of cargo between ocean ports to the disaster locations.

For these reasons, humanitarian aid is regularly sent by air charter as it is faster than sea freight and can be less treacherous to negotiate than the land if it is a remote location with a harsh surface environment.

The main challenge for humanitarian aid via air charter is that it must be delivered quickly due to the nature of the situation. This means that there may not always be enough time to make arrangements for customs clearance and special handling at airports along the route from the donor country to the destination country.

For example, if there is an earthquake in Japan and goods need to be delivered quickly, they will not have time to wait for customs clearance before departing on their journey towards Japan.

The logistics partner needs to be well-versed in emergency procedures and expediting shipments legally and with international permissions

Humanitarian logistics is a specialized area that requires extensive knowledge of the relevant laws and regulations.

A good example of this is the UN Security Council Resolution 2286, which allows humanitarian organizations to transport relief without needing permission from national governments. This resolution was created after the Ebola outbreak in 2014, when many countries were reluctant to let aid workers into their borders.

Over our 21 years in service, ACI Logistics has provided humanitarian aid flights to a variety of locations around the world including Nepal, Sri Lanka, Japan, and Haiti.

We specialize in humanitarian cargo and know exactly what it takes to get supplies where they need to go as quickly as possible without getting caught up in red tape or other issues. This expertise and knowledge is invaluable and can save many lives when disaster hits.

In addition to transporting supplies needed by survivors, ACI also transports medical staff and equipment, so they can treat people who need help immediately after an event occurs

In Conclusion

Humanitarian cargo is important for helping those who are in distress during times of emergency. It is essential to partner with a reliable logistics partner, like ACI Logistics, who can be depended upon to move aid, people, support and more.

Humanitarian cargo has become an increasingly significant part of international aid efforts over recent years.
