ADC Projects – Living the Merits of a Family Business
ADC Projects started as a family business over 30 years ago.
After reading about developments in the IT world, ADC Founder and CEO Gert van Zyl started the company in 1992. It was known as African Data Corporation (ADC).
The company operated various businesses until a not-to-be-missed opportunity arose. Eskom's failure to keep the lights on presented ADC Projects with the chance to establish one of South Africa's first independent power stations (IPP) in 2008.
The rest, as they say, is history (read all about our track record on the company website).
What has been the key to the company’s success?
ADC has always been run like a family business – the ability to be efficient, lean, and agile and take on new and collaborative ventures continues to be the cornerstone of the business model, as does the Founder’s pioneering spirit.
Gert van Zyl built the company on solid family values, and clients value ADC's strong work ethic, ability to get things done, and authentic approach to solving any problem.
ADC Projects ticks all the boxes when it comes to epitomizing all that is good about family business:
1. An Entrepreneurial Spirit: and a “go-getter” attitude.

2. Shared Values: serving others, authenticity, and trustworthiness are fundamental.
3. Stability and Commitment: having a solid legacy to build on, with staff members committed to delivering excellence in all they do.
4. Flexibility: ADC is a medium-sized company deliberately structured to be agile and make quick decisions.
5. Focused Leadership: Setting and achieving goals is an essential part of leadership strategy.
6. Close Collaboration: Working closely with customers/clients in empowered relationships.
7. A Sense of Belonging: The company deliberately creates a caring, supportive environment where every staff member is appreciated.
While ADC Projects has big dreams and goals for expansion in Africa, Europe, and Asia, the family values that built the business continue to be the mainstay of the company ethos.
