Africans confront top Biden official for Africa who asked to condemn Russia's invasion of Ukraine while encouraging 'Israel's aggression on Palestine
Here are our top stories today. It was a telephonic press briefing like no other. At about 9 a.m., the time in Washington DC today, the U.S. Africa Media Hub in South Africa hosted the United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Mary Catherine Phee. She told us how horrible Putin's war in Ukraine is, and called on African nations to join America in condemning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, asserting that unity remains the best way to restore peace in Europe.
“You matter, Africa matters,” said Phee, who was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden Jr. in April 2021 to serve as the U.S. Assistant Secretary for African Affairs and chair of the Board of the Foreign Service.
Then the questions began coming in. One reporter asked her why should Africans join the United States in condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine when the United States has failed to condemn 'Israel's aggression on Palestine'.
Another reporter asked her whether the U.S. will allow sovereign nations of Iran & North Korea acquire atomic bombs since they are also sovereign nations like Ukraine. The answers were hard to articulate. And that is our top story below.
