The AI battle has begun

Following #OpenAI's launch of #ChatGPT on November 30th, 2022, the tech scene is buzzing once again!

Fast forward to February 6th, when #Google's CEO, Sundar Pichai, announced their newest creation, #Bard, a conversational AI chatbot that's set to shake things up.

Followed by #Microsoft's announcement of the new AI-powered #Bing homepage that we can chat with, using #OpenAI’s GPT technology on February 7th.

The two tech giants have clearly shown their intentions to butt heads again over the future of artificial intelligence (AI).

But with this new era of AI comes a question that has lingered in the minds of many:

What does this mean for humans?

Let's begin our deep dive into the AI battle by "unboxing" ChatGPT.

Creating awareness

ChatGPT is not an illusion or a fantasy of a mystical figure. It's a language model using and combining massive amounts of data.

Get this, however, although ChatGPT doesn’t know what a word may mean, it has a good level of conceptualization when it comes to combining massive amounts of data to give meaning, e.g. it knows how to use words.

This means, that it can effectively answer questions

and more.

That being said, it still has its risks & limitations if not used appropriately and responsibly.

Let’s explore both opportunities and risks presented to us with ChatGPT, but more importantly, let’s discuss our role as humans within the AI spectrum.

What opportunities are being created?

Firstly, don’t be afraid of AI. It’s here to make you more productive and help you save time!

We’ve applied a particular structure for our team and teams using our technology to help them understand the complexity of this language model and how it can be used to help humans reach their full potential, becoming AI-empowered!

Here’s our breakdown:

1. AI-Empowered Teams

AI-Empowered Teams have a clear understanding of AI and how to apply it within their

  • Workday
  • Decision-Making

Such Teams tend to be more efficient and productive, and are thus able to achieve a better work-life balance.

Marketing Teams are prime candidates for AI empowerment, as they often have clear opportunities for quick, measurable success.

2. AI-Empowered Roles

An AI-Empowered Role is when an individual can leverage available technology to streamline key job functions, resulting in increased efficiency and cost savings.

For example, an AI-empowered Social Media Manager uses ChatGPT to develop a content strategy that increases brand awareness and expands the reach of the given organization.

3. AI-Enhanced Workflows

An AI-Enhanced Workflow refers to the use of AI driving the process of automation to streamline and optimize the flow of tasks within an organization.

For example, a Project Manager uses ChatGPT to create email templates for communicating the launch of a project to stakeholders.

4. Prompt Threads

To understand what a Prompt Thread is, we must first understand what a prompt is. This word refers to the instruction, action, or question you will enter in tools such as ChatGPT to guide it in helping you produce the desired result.

The quality of prompts is the foundation of AI such as ChatGPT. This means that the more refined your prompts or questions are the greater the value that can be gained from these platforms. This also means that the skill to ask better questions may very well be the skill of the decade.

Let’s check out a Prompt Thread example below

Apply this framework to unlock the full potential of your team and drive efficiency in your workflows. It’s about understanding how to use AI tools and technologies to improve your workday and decision-making. And just like any other skill, the ability to ask better questions is crucial to reaping the benefits of AI.

What are the risks?

We live in an era where we have more data than we’ve ever had before, and the question of risk looms large. Following the release of ChatGPT and then Bard, and as we stand on the cusp of Web 3.0, the amount of data at our disposal is greater than ever before, and it’s only set to grow. But as we move from fully manual to fully automated systems, we are forced to rethink our definition of “work” and establish a healthy relationship with the technology that is rapidly shaping our world.

So how do we navigate this “new” landscape responsibly?

First and foremost, it’s crucial that we understand the systems that we are working with. Then, we must question where we fall within the spectrum of AI and automation, and ask ourselves what we need to understand and give to these systems in order to build trust. After all, the trust built between humans and AI is just as important as the trust between two individuals when they interact and wish to form a relationship.

But how should we interact with AI in practice?

Let’s start by considering the statement “garbage in, garbage out”. Namely, the data that goes into these systems will shape the output. If we haven’t properly factored in the data, AI, and/or the automation process, we risk introducing biases and limitations that we may not even be aware of.

How will this impact our work?

AI and automation are increasingly shaping our social structures and thus we can no longer avoid the question: “How will this impact my job role?”

We are already seeing how AI and automation have taken over some aspects of what we have traditionally called “work”.

The questions you should be asking yourselves:

  1. “What does this mean for my role?”
  2. “How do I need to re-evaluate my capabilities, particularly the ones I’m currently not even using?”
  3. “How do I bring my strengths and capabilities to the surface?

Understanding the above will help you build trust with AI and of course, once the walls are down you’ll be able to train yourself on how to use AI to ultimately become more productive and perhaps even achieve a better work-life balance, to become AI-empowered!

In short, let’s treat and develop our relationship with AI as we do with humans. Be open to embracing it, but before you reveal your “cards” make sure you’ve understood what it is, how to use it, and what your role as a human is.
