AI and "the Hard Problem"

AI and "the Hard Problem"

Here is a landscape or map of ideas about consciousness and it presents the diverse theories and taxonomy of proposed solutions. The Hard Problem.

Kuhn has published a taxonomy of proposed solutions to and theories regarding the hard problem of consciousness. He produced this framework to explore their impact on meaning, purpose, and value (if any) on topics such as AI consciousness, virtual immortality, survival beyond death, and free will.

The Point

Here is the point in case it is missed: anyone coming and presenting to you, your board or senior team member ideas about consciousness and AI needs to describe where they are on this ontology, where they think you are on the map and where you company and stakeholders are. Understanding that we don't understand or agree on the hard problem is critically important.

"A landscape of consciousness: Toward a taxonomy of explanations and implications" was published in the journal Progress in Biophysics and Molecular Biology in August 2024 issue.

AND

Micro-organisms (bacteria, viruses and other tiny life forms) may drive biological variation in visible life as much, if not more, than genetic mutations, creating new lineages and even new species of animals and plants - Research from Seth Bordenstein, Professor of Biology and Entomology, funded by Dorothy Foehr and J. Lloyd Huck. He and 21 other scientists from around the world published a paper in Science, summarizing research that they said drives a deeper understanding of biological variation by uniting life's seen and unseen realms.
